Oh they do....Jarontay Jones is too small to be a 4 star DE, except multiple DEs ranked above him are smaller......

6'3" 245 and runs a 4.6.

Not to mention this season he had 103 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss.

jarontay was ranked in the top 200 early in the season, then dropped to a 3 star because of his size? did he shrink or something? ri... can be quite dumb.

Some of the southeast guys at Rivals evaluated him at one game and thought he was getting pushed around against the run. I know it's difficult for them to see these guys at every game, but to have a drop because of one game is poor evaluation. Of course, they jumped Gurley up after the Shrine Bowl.

Yep, Todd Gurley jumps from a 3 star, 29th best Athlete, to #42 OVERALL and a 6.0. *cough*bullshit*cough*

Time always tells the tale. I'd like to see rivals, scout, etc. go back and do a ranking vs. results report. I think I saw one a couple of years back but it was Tech specific.

A simple way to do it would be to start at 2007 H.S. rankings and build up, tracking the college accolades of the top 100 or top 150 and carry it further into their NFL draft position, Pro Bowls, etc.

My guess is you'd need a huge section for all of the kids outside of the top 100 starting in 2007, which would include everyone we've put in the league outside of Tyrod Taylor. Right?

FWIW a few QBs rated higher than Andrew Luck in 2007 according to R___

Terrelle Pryor
Blaine Gabbert
Dayne Crist
EJ Manuel
Mike Glennon

Unfortunately, these services are a business and have an agenda. The SEC has won the last 6 MNCs and has some of the biggest fanbases who buy or will buy if they know there is buzz to their recruits. Rivals also loves size, which projects better to pro prospects, even though a lot of smaller guys are great college players. VT's recruiting has gotten better by the services, but you wonder if that has anything to do with the fanbase buying more subscriptions?

Well...Ryan Williams also. David Wilson this year (and LT next year). Who else have we landed in rivals' top 100?

yeah, not too many in the top 100. we have had several right on the cusp (hosely, coleman) and some who started out in the rivals 100 but dropped (mccray).

rivals 101

was browsing at lunch at the rivals100 chat .. and one of the scouts said that #101 was from the mid atlantic and has committed to a team that played in a bca bowl .. any guesses??

considering JC was #102 -- kinda sucks in a way that he didn't break into the top 100 .. he got hosed .. what a grab for us

Sounds like motivation to me... Not that JC seems unmotivated in any way.

Sounds like another underrated Virginia Tech recruiting class that once they get re-ranked 4 years from now by the various recruiting services and outlets will end up in the top 10 nationally. It's funny how consistently that seems to happen.

And who says R___ doesn't cater to certain teams (UGA, Bama, Texas)

You think so?

As a Georgia, for years I have thought that they were against UGA and favored temas like USC, Bama, Florida and Texas, etc.

Take John Theus for example. Last year they had him as the #6 player overall and were hyping him beyond belief... fast forward a bit and he commits early to Georgia over Florida... instantly he drops. Now he's barely in their top 25.

Georgia has the #18 class according to Rivals, while ESPN has us #5.

Eye of the beholder, I guess.
