How many infield chopper HRs have you seen? :D

Seriously, HD, I'm sure we'll like him if he's a hard worker.

I was just hoping that Z might be able to work something out that gives the M's a fighting chance this season.

Chances are this and the Morales deal will be it as far as offensive upgrades go with Z at the helm.

We still have a chance at that 2nd Wild Card spot, which is about all we have a chance for this season, and is honestly way above where any expectations for this team should have been this year.

The way the A's and Angels are playing this year, along with the lack of real game changing bats available, I think it's smarter to save the big move for later. Whether that's prospects or Price if that happens. Don't make a move just to make a move, and the closest bat we heard about was Byrd, who wanted too much in return to make sense.

Yeah, could be.

Also, could be there was a good trade for equivalent talent to be had, but Z didn't want to risk it. I don't think it's crazy to think a GM like Z at the end of his contract is looking out for number 1 to a large degree right now.

Maybe the M's are pushing hard to get Price, because they know their only playoff chance is the 2nd wild card. Since Felix will more than likely start that 1 game playoff, it eliminates him from starting twice in the ALDS.

Instead of going

Iwakuma
Young
Felix
Iwakuma
Young

in a 5 game series. With Price we can go

Iwakuma
Price
Felix
Iwakuma
Price

My take for what it is worth: Good addition for a team with a good middle of the order lineup. If he is asked to bat in the middle of the order, it will be like asking Jones to bat leadoff.

My issue is that he is 34 and even worse, he is a free agent so he is a 54 game rental (not playing tonight). If they re-sign him to a 2 year extension, I think I will like the deal.

I don't see Denorfia as a huge addition, but I'd take him over Almonte any day. He is not having a great year this year, but from 2010-2013 he hit .280/.338/.414 with 43 steals and 32 HRs. During that span he had a WAR of 9.7, something not many Mariners can say. He also hits lefties well.

Best case scenario, you get the 2010-2013 Denorfia. Worst case: You get his current form, which is not a downgrade from anyone we currently have out there.

I fucking LOVE Chris Denorfia, as most Padres fans do. Massive plate discipline and sharp as a tack. Solid leadoff guy and fabulous 2-strike hitter. In fact I think I heard he's the best in the league with 2 strikes and he can go the other way.

You'll love him.

Are you being sarcastic ? The guy has 1 homer all year and is batting .240 something...

But that makes him a cleanup hitter for M's.

Which has absolutely zero to do with what I said.

I asked if you were being sarcastic .... I wasn't sure if you were messing with us or actually saying the guy is good...

I don't think that HD would make this thread purely to troll us. He posted a couple of tweets from people who were expressing their enjoyment of Denorfia as a baseball player. Denorfia is not having the greatest year, but I can see why HD would like him as a player.

Me? Sarcastic? :D No, ask anyone around the Padres and everyone to a man loves this guy. Give me playing time and he's much better than his numbers this season. He didn't have it easy in San Diego.
