It stinks but can't really be surprised. Old arms like deGrom and Scherzer have a lot of mileage on them. And both have a lot of recent injury history. Rangers gambled on both and lost.

If they developed more of their own pitching this would have less of an impact.

Big picture: focus on being healthy next season. Even with a few wins this week this team isn't likely making the playoffs.

my vote is Hader and Hicks as the closer pair. Peralta & Neris as the 7-8 inning pair. Pagan & Moore the 6-7 pair and Stratton & ? As the 5-7 pair.

Neris would be my fireman
Neris has a team option. I doubt he will be available.

The big loss for this stretch run is that Scherzer would have made his final 2 starts of the season against Seattle. So someone will need to step up.

If they do develop a starting pitcher, they refuse to trust them to start in the big leagues, except in emergency situations. That has been the case with Bradford and Ragans. They didn't want to trust Dunning. Next, they won't trust Kent. Acker won't be far behind.

Isn't Winn supposed to be one of our top pitching prospects?

The following are 16 of the relief pitchers who are going to be unrestricted free agents this coming offseason. This is the group I would like the Rangers to consider. After we see which clubs or players decline to excercise an option, this list will probably grow. We need 2 who can close from this list whose names aren't Aroldis Chapman or Will Smith. I don't mind one of those guys coming back, but in a less stressful role. Of course, a massive meltdown from any of these guys over the last couple of weeks of the season could change things.

John Brebbia
Phil Maton
Joe Jimenez
Chris Stratton
Wandy Peralta
Ryne Stanek
Renaldo Lopez
Aroldis Chapman
David Robertson
Craig Kimbrell
Will Smith
Josh Hader
Matt Moore
Jordan Hicks
Pierce Johnson
Emilio Pagan
Ideally, next year I would like to go into the season with the following makeup in the bullpen:

2 guys you can trust to close

2 guys you can count on to do consistently well in the 7th or 8th

2 guys who are maybe too inexperienced or a little too inconsistent to trust in late innings, but who have good enough stuff to keep the game close

2 guys who can give you 2 or 3 innings if need be, but who you wouldn't be afraid of, if they needed to go into the 7th or 8th on occasion.

I just don’t see what the Rangers see in Ornelas. You would think Foscue would have been a better option.
