The Rangers are ranked 11th in Offense
25th in pitching.
24th In defense.

With the amount of hitting prospects we have coming up and growing and looking good I would focus solely on acquiring pitching and then maybe bringing in a really good defense coach and having the players work really hard on their defense.

I would look to re sign Perez and Moore, I would also pickup Leclercs $6 million option.. super low whip.. seems to be gaining.. and then also sign a guy like Syndergaard or Clevinger and then trade for a guy like David Bednar of the Pirates.. maybe they want Duran??

Perez $15 AAV 3/$45
Clevinger/Syndergaard $15-18 AAV 2/$30-$36
Moore $6.5 AAV
Leclerc $6 mil
About $44 million

C-Heim/Huff/Garver
1B-Lowe/Huff
2B-Semien
3B-Jung
SS-Seager
LF-Thompson
CF-Taveras
RF-Adolis
DH-Garver/Huff/Lowe

Bench-Huff, Mathias, Smith and Miller

With having 3 CF start in the OF they don’t necessarily need a 4th OF who can play CF.
With Semien and Smith don’t really need a SS.
I like this bench.

1.Perez
2.Gray
3.Syndergaard/Clevinger
4.Dunning
5.Otto

Bullpen
David Bednar or Trade acquisition
Hernandez
Moore
Burke
Leclerc
Martin
Barlow
Hearn

If we’re not running Duran out there at 3B and Miller out there (anywhere) all the time.. mixed with improved defense from Lowe at 1B and with a super fast defensive minded OF I think the defense ends up being much better.

By only trading for one reliever we get to keep a lot of prospects for a mid season trade for whatever need the team has. Most likely to acquire an ACE for the rotation if Otto or Ragans or whoever doesn’t pan out..

By not signing a big contract for a hitter we will allow an easier path for Zavala/Huff and others..

Actually you are correct he has had enough time at the MLB level to lose his prospect status

Retread perhaps?

Re pitching disappointments this year, I expected Snyder and Lee to be at the MLB level.
Yeah, I was not really including relief pitchers. It is still fairly early for Lee. He was just drafted last year..

Allard pitched pretty well again in his start for Round Rock. We gotta have bullpen games though. Lol

So you add Jung, a 9th inning guy and another starter to what the Rangers have had for the most part, at some point in time, all season this year. This does not make the team a playoff contender to me.

Jung should help the offense but that's no guarantee in itself. Getting rid of Calhoun will help some too but besides that you have got the same guys. that have been an inconsistent offense all year, this season.

Gray, Clevinger and Syndergaard cant stay healthy, so you'll have to have 2 guys, that can fill those 2 starters roles when those 2 starters go down. Which they will and I don't see those guys in the system. It's the same as this year, you end up short 2 starters and have BP games or some trash, like Keuchel or Arihara starting games.

Dunning and Otto can be serviceable as 4th and 5th starters on a .500 team maybe but they aren't likely the type of starters, for a playoff contending team.

I am not talking about a caliber team, that may squeak out a 2nd WC spot either. Talking about a club that expects to make a serious playoff push. I wouldn't expect to contend for a WS, for at least 2-3 more years but Davis is talking like the expectation is to win 88 games and win a playoff series, possibly.

They have to do better than this IMO

afraid i would pass on Moore and Leclerc and look at a real closer (Diaz) and a couple of good relievers (Maybe Rodgers and Knebel).

and i think we let Miller walk and go with Harris and instead of Smith Eli White as the 4th outfielder

What would your ideal off-season look like?

Diaz will probably get $18 million a year.
Rodgers and Knebel probably $8-10 million a year.
$36 million on the bullpen doesn’t leave a lot of room for additions to the rotation..

If they did decline leclerc and Moore they could still bring some guys in on lower deals that would work out. Kind of like they did with Moore this year.

I like a trade for David Bednar from the Pirates.

Hard to not pencil Bubba in for LF
Through 26 games he has a .9 WAR
That’s a 5.6 WAR over the course of a full season..
that’s “Elite” as woody would say.

we've gone the cheap bullpen route and we suck in both the starting rotation and bullpen.
