Hopefully, excellent play at FS will make Edmunds job easier, too.

Maybe seeing some overall improvement at both safety spots.

They are both second year players. They can grow together. Though one needs a lot more growing than the other.

I still love it.

Steelers suck at drafting DBs
Steelers need DBs.
Minkah is an excellent slot CB, FS
Minkah comes cheap as hell for 3 years. Important with how much money is on Pitts books.
Steelers arent giving up on the season, and just signaled huge confidence in Mason.

Even if they had a top 10npock, they might be drafting hoping to get a Minkah anyway.

Minkah is a leader. Need that.

If you used that pick next year (I'm assuming it will be a middle of the to end of the round pick) for a guy as good as Minkah you'd be thrilled so the move looks good to me

Having a field-general type FS makes everyone's job easier. CB, SS & LBers all should benefit. I've been sayin that for years... Look at what Earl Thomas did for the LOB for years. Dude was irreplaceable in that defense.

I pray he picks up the green dot duties asap!

8 straight first round draft picks dedicated to the Defense, plus high profile FA acquisitions to bolster it.
If that Cockatorium Keith Butler can't produce with this defense, and soon, it's time to give him directions out of town.

Unreal amount of investments... But remember, his name is Keith Tomlin.

Just throwing this out there...

Haden - 7th overall - 30yrs old
Barron - 7th overall - 29yrs old
Bush - 10th overall - 21yrs old
Fitzpatrick - 11th overall - 22yrs old
Dupree - 22nd overall - 26yrs old
Edmunds - 28th overall - 22yrs old
Watt - 30th overall - 24yrs old
Heyward - 31st overall - 30yrs old

Tuitt - 46th overall - 26yrs old

Hargrave - 89th overall - 26yrs old
Nelson - 98th overall - 26yrs old

That's an average draft pick of 34th overall (damn near completely 1st Rd value of 32), with an average age of 25.6yrs.

Add in Burns as another 1st rounder. Either the scouting, the coaching, or both are at fault but there is no excuse this defense should give up 30+ a game.

I am not a fan of this trade at all and I hope I am wrong. Could Colbert and Tomlin be making a last ditch effort to salvage the season and save their jobs.

Like I said, I am not a fan at all of the trade and worry this team will still struggle to win more than 5 games. I fear they just gave away a top 10 pick but at least there appears to be value in Fitzpatrick for the future.

True. I'm just counting current starters.

THREE things that are very important to note here...
  • Week 1 the Dolphins were installing an entirely new defense. SO his 2018 stats weigh much more heavily on the sort of player he is than just week 1 of 2019.
  • Not only was this an entirely new defense week 1 for the Fins, but they have been turning over the roster for the past few months. A lot of the starters on that defense week 1 were last minute check-ins. 3/4 of the D-lineman were brand new starters lol. Looked like a JV squad rushing the passer. The secondary was hung out to dry before the game even started.
  • Minkah was playing slot CB week 1 when he got roasted by Marquise Brown. Fin Fans had been clamoring for him to transition back to safety, his most natural position.
Loads of red flags there so I don't know how anyone could conclude that Minkah wasn't worth the trade based off 1 week of play. That's just absurd that whoever wrote that review didn't account for any of this. Let me guess, WF?
