I kinda' feel bad for you Belt, because I COULD see that on my TV. The sweep and scope of it was part of what made it great. The people I work with here who I've talked to about the episode, nobody mentioned that they couldn't see it.

Possible your cable provider had something switched wrong?
DirecTV. Never have I had anything but good to say about my picture with DirecTV.... Outside of windy conditions that scramble it, but that wasn't the case here.

I haven't really thought this out but how many "main" characters or impactful deaths actually happen in major battles? We all theorized they'd off a bunch here but it seems like most of those types of character deaths happen in other ways where its more surprising. Like its been plotted out in a conniving way (Red Wedding, Joffrey's poisoning, the Night's Watch killing Jon). The "two sides line up in battle, characters die" hasn't really happened much. What I'm getting at is maybe we expecting deaths in the Battle of Winterfell was misplaced. We were always much more likely to get them as the final plotting for the Throne plays out
I'm trying to think.

Big battles:
Battle of the Blackwater: no one important dies, that I recall.
Battle of Castle Black: we lost Grenn, Pyp, Ygritte.
Battle of Hardhome: no one important dies.
Battle of the Goldroad: No one important dies in fighting, we lose Sam's dad and brother in the after-scene, Jaime almost got cooked.
Battles of Casterly Rock/Highgarden: No one dies in battle. We lose Olenna in the after-scene.
Battle of the Bastards: Wun-Wun and Rickon die. Ramsay dies in the after-scene.
Ship battle: Two Sand Snakes die, everyone else escapes or is captured.
Daznak's Pit: Dany's husband dies.

Outside of single combat, not a lot of people important to the story die in battle.

And just so we're clear, there IS more to cinematography than color-grading, yes? Perhaps I'm giving someone with your wit too much credit here.

Forgive my naivite on the subject. While I understand there's more to cinematography than just color-grading, I would have thought it started with actually being able to see what the fuck you're looking at.

GRRM isn't much for a play by play of the battles themselves. They go quick or are glossed over and we hear about it after the fact. So no one important actually dying in the battles fits his style.

so what does Jaime do now? He defended humanity against the WW...does he head back to Kings Landing now and help Cersei or does he hang out with his new friends? He has not bent a knee to anyone but Cersei, right?

I can't see him going back to KL and siding with Cersei

I saw it (maybe not quite the clear) 2nd viewing. It was noticeable

the people complaining have valid point, because first viewing when the wave of undead attacked, all I could see was wave of gray, looked like a dust storm killed everything

Oh, hell yes.

The good dragon bit off half of the bad dragon's face. I didn't realize that (along with most of that fight), but that's why fire was leaking out of the side of the bad dragon's face when he was staring down Snow.
And Rhaegal took some serious damage during that fight. Good information to know as they are going to be going straight into another battle very soon.

And then the NK cast Fog Of War, which didn't help.

The after show shed some light. She stabbed him in same spot where dragon glass turned him into NK, as in thats where he needed to be stabbed

I thought the dragon glass was pushed into his heart, and Arya stabbed him lower?

I thought it was lower at first but after rewatching it was definitely in the heart area.

So we are to assume she just got lucky?

The clown had one vulnerability, and it wasn't armored enough to stop a 16 year old girl from stabbing him there.

He should have been riding into battle with a 2" steel plate over it.

As I recall, the aftershow indicated he had to be stabbed in the same place as when he was changed to the Night King.

So does that mean a blind luck hit directly to the heart, or does it mean getting stabbed while physically located at the Weirwood tree in Winterfell?

The latter of the two makes more sense. Only Bran would have know the correct location, and that would be why he set up shop in the godswood of Winterfell.

I think they intentionally wanted it confusing, but maybe did too good of a job.
Yeah. I think that was the intention.

And I think they did their job too well. There is trying to immerse us in the sense of chaos. And then there is me having to work too hard to try to follow anything.

Don't you go slandering Slinkys. They're awesome. They go down stairs! Sort of. You might have to give them a push halfway down.

He wasn't changed at the Winterfell Weirwood. He was changed quite a bit further south, at Isle of Faces.

It was just about him getting stabbed in his dragonglass.

I was thinking Stannis kind of died in battle, but not really...he was killed by Brienne after the battle

like I said, 2nd viewing helped and made more sense. Would've been better had 1st viewing was as clear.
