WTF is with all the games on the 25th

We have 4 games this Saturday. In 2017, we had 5 the Saturday before Labor Day Weekend. In 2016, we had a game one full Friday before the Week 1 of CFB weekend (in Australia).

Although, I'd prefer it if everyone kicked off the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, the Thursday and Friday before is fine with me, but a full week before is a bit anti-climactic. Everyone wants their TV time, I guess.

I don’t have a problem with it, nor do I find it anticlimactic to have a couple mountain West games and rice playing whoever the week before. Excited to be able to see college football a little sooner, and it doesn’t take anything away from the big games on the 1st.

Last year was a lot weirder though. Seemed like there were some actual P5 teams playing (other than Stanford in Australia) and it made kind of a weird week 0 situation. I don’t know, maybe I’m not remembering right.

I also feel like they’ve had games lined up all opening weekend, Thursday through Sunday/Monday for a while now.

Hawaii rule. If your team travels to Hawaii you can book an extra game to help offset the cost.
Hawaii also gets a 13th game for some reason.
Hawaii is playing early.
Rice is @ Hawaii on Sept 8
Duquesne is @ Hawaii on Sept 22
Wyoming is @ Hawii on Oct 6th

last season
games were Stanford vs Rice in Australia so they played early
However the other games
South Florida @ San jose State: SJSU was @ Hawaii Game 7
Oregon State @ Colorado State: CSU was @ Hawaii Game 5
Portland State @ BYU: BYU was @ Hawaii final game
and Hawaii @ UMass though they only played 12 this season.

By playing a game in what some call week 0 this allows those teams to maintain a bye within the season instead of booking a game in it.

I miss the old pigskin and kickoff classics this wkend. They use to be a couple decent gms. New Mexico st ain’t messing around. 2 games in a 5 day period to start the season

Yeah, that's a possibility. But until the big guys play, the games are minor league.

Heard this some time ago, not sure if it's true but for the players they can use the miles that they accumulate from all of their trips? Pretty solid recruiting tool if they can

I get it, baseball isn't popular in the backwoods but the major cities watch baseball.
