WR Danny Amendola has restructured his contract to remain with the Patriots, according to Mike Garofolo of Fox Sports. "It's an honor to play for this franchise and with this group of guys. We have one goal -- to win another championship and that's all we care about," Amendola said in a statement, per Garofolo.

I'm hoping this means someone is signing an extension soon.

Actually Amendola's deal is for $8.1M according to CSNNE. I'm not sure how it all breaks down, but they said that the original $7.3M release was correct, but short by $400K per. It must a bonus that got tacked on for properly wiping himself after practice showers.

BB wants to have a little extra for the June cuts.......me thinks he's going to be looking for a veteran OL or two.

I am hearing that the cap relief with Amendola's new contract is just for 2016. His cap hit for 2017 is even larger than his original 2016 hit. Did BB just kick the can down the road for 1 year?

Maybe BB thinks he can find a cheaper replacement (one of the drafted or undrafted players) for Amendola next year?

So this was done for this yr. Interesting. I don't think we will see any Patriots restructured or extended this season. Lots of guys going to test FA next yr.....ballsy move on BB part.

Here's the facts.....

2016 - $1.5M that's it. No bonus, nothing else
2017 - $6.5M He gets it whether or not he wins a roster spot. No matter whether he stays or not and it counts against the cap. More than likely, he'll renegotiate it and get a big signing bonus. The contract will be for 3-4 years so the signing bonus can be spread into little chunks as the cap grows.

So both Dola and Edelman are coming off post season surgeries. Not a fact inclined to give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Although they are said to be coming along right on schedule, one or both of them could wind up on PUP to start the season. This could be especially costly for Edelman who counts on his legs and feet for the sharp cuts that are his forte in pass patterns. The two rookie receivers added in the draft may be seeing a lot of action early in the season, as well as UDFA Foster.
