I think that year is one of the closest in recent history. I would go with Piazza because he played in pitcher friendly Dodger Stadium whereas Walker played in Coors Field, and he played better defense in a much more important position. It's ridiculously close though.

But I looked at it anyway. Both were awesome. But Walker had the better beast mode since he also had 33 SB.

Piazza .362/.431/.638 w/5 SB
Walker .366/.452/.720 w/33 SB wind helped here too, I guess.

This thread is an indication that you may have too much time on your hands!

I thought the whole point of posting on a sports forum is because you have too much time on your hands...

I thought that you worked and went to school. Doesn't that take some of your time?

I agree that it's very close, but I still go with Piazza considering he caught and hit in a much tougher ballpark.

Fuck it you're right. I'm doing Calculus with MLB Now on in the background, and now I'm on the edge of my seat about them talking about Barry Bonds maybe becoming the Marlins hitting coach after the commercial break is over. I bet I could be President of the fucking United States if I replaced half of the time I dedicate to baseball, football, movies, and comics to stuff that's actually productive. Still, I can't complain...

So you are into comic books Omar. Is that your escape from reality? Do you have a collection?

No injuries. Typical Bonds season. 8.9 WAR

Yeah I checked it out. Those guys actually were a little better that year. But I know they don't like to give the same guy the MVP every year so there are some seasons where the real good players don't get it even when they should. Going by WAR that year Howard won I think Pujols was actually a good bit better.
When they first started the MVP they actually had a rule that you could only win it once, which is why Babe Ruth doesn't have like 10 MVP awards.

Howard winning the MVP in '06 was a joke. And Utley finishing 7th was also a joke

Say what? Howard went .313/.425/.659 plus 58 HR, 149 rbi, 5.9 WAR, and only 181 Ks. Howard's glory year.

Yeah, and Pujols put up a 8.1 WAR with a 174 wRC+. Utley, Pujols, Bletran, and Berkman were all way better than Howard in '06

Pujols did have a fantastic year and only struck out 50 times. But with 10 more homers and 10 more rbi they had to give the award to Mr. Excitement, Howard.
