Washington Post headline:

Virginia Tech interested in former Connecticut big man Alex Oriakhi.

Greenberg has three scholarships, and Va Tech could use a talented big guy. Oriakhi wouldn't have to sit out a year, since UCONN won't be eligible for the tournament next year because of academics.

The Washington Post calls this a long shot, but it certainly is worth a try. Va Tech has generally been a bubble team over the past few years, and Greenberg seems like a great coach, but can Va Tech make the tournament next year? What are they missing?

I don't think there is any interest in Duke, but similarly, I agree this would be a very long shot.

He's the type of player that could really help Tech, but I don't know what SG can sell him on transferring to Blacksburg.

Shitty weather that's on par with Connecticuts?

The one on the left REALLY looks like Seth.

I'm officially conflicted.

Eh, I don't think he'll be that big of a help. He'll be some but not as much as you think. Like pretty much everyone on that UConn team, I've watched him and said "He seems good but he also seems like he should be a lot better than he is".

It's a long shot but we'd have a lengthy frontcourt with DFS, Raines (at 4), and Oriakhi.

Something was missing this year. VT was SO close to winning so many games, it just seems like it wouldn't take much to push a lot of those 2 or 3 point losses to the win column. So yes, an incremental improvement with the addition of one experienced player might help them win some of those close ACC games, and get them into the tournament next year.

Of course, fewer turnovers in general, and better free throw shooting in high pressure situations when the game is on the line might do it as well, but saying "try harder" isn't as concrete as adding an established player. They need a spark from somewhere.

With the departure of 4 of UNCHeat's starting 5, it appears as though Carowhina is the likely landing spot for Oriakhi.
