Without MHSL82 and sakataters, this board has become invested with only bot posts.

For example, see the above. It wasn't posted by a real person. But by a bot that searches for keywords on Gobert, and posts articles and links that match those keywords.

If it were posted by a real person, I would see some passionate, or maybe indifferent, thoughts. A post with a tone to it.

It's been over a year since anyone has posted in this thread. Shameful on my part.

I've never seen a defense seem so much like day and night when one player is gone.

Jazz W/o Gobert on floor: 109.6 DRTG (101 possessions)
Jazz W/ Gobert on floor: 101.0 DRTG (292 possessions)
I hate numbers: Jazz were elite defensive with him on the court and horrible without.

Thunder average shot distance w/o Gobert on floor - 4.75 feet
Thunder average shot distance w/ Gobert on floor - 8.59 feet
I hate numbers: When Gobert was on the floor, Thunder rarely tried to go into the paint. Every time he was off, they would not stop going in.

Thunder eFG% w/o Gobert: 53.8%
Thunder eFG% w/ Gobert: 49.2%
I hate numbers: Thunder made a lot less shots without Gobert.

Thunder attempted 24.8% of their shots within 3 feet when Gobert was on the floor.
Thunder attempted 42.3% of their shots within 3 feet when Gobert was off the floor.
I hate numbers: Thunder really didn't even try to go inside when Gobert was there.

r/nba - Rudy Gobert's defensive impact was phenomenal...

I like the average shot distance stat.

Also, since I like perimeter defense too, I wish we could have some numbers on Rubio or Stockton (David and his father John) or Exum or Mitchell.

For me, the stat that I like to measure for perimeter defense is average time taken until the opposing team gets the ball in the paint.

I mean, I've never seen an official stat, but when I watch games, that's how I evaluate perimeter defense.

Maybe though the average shot distance can still be applied? Maybe stats will show that with good perimeter defenders, the average shot defense extends out even farther, from the midrange to farther away?

Can you find his introductory press conference, after being drafted?

Good post from Rudy.

++++++++++++++++

I had seen Donovan first play in the Summer League, and my first thought after seeing him was, He can play defense. I always look at how a new guy approaches defense — does he play as hard on D as he does on the other end? Donovan did. I respected that right away.

He already did. He used to shoot 49.2% and now shoots 58 point something. I remember in his second year or third year he started off really well and so there was an article or something on the radio that talked about it. Since then, he leveled off and then dropped. We are still early in the season so he may get to 60% by the end.

He shot 68% last year, and 65% the year before.

He feels so far away from those levels, at 58%.

I meant to add a wink face after I said he already did.

Speaking of Gobert's 100% FG games, what's the longest consecutive streak of 100% FG?

What abotu 100% FG and 100% FT?

That is cool. I liked Ben Wallace and Olajuwon, so anything that compares with them, or even better, is good.

I wish this had been posted earlier. So I would pay more attention to Gobert and see if I felt the same excitement when watching him, as I did those other players, this year.

I wish it were last year so he could win the DOY a third year in a row.
