What I heard is he wants to coach more so than play at this point.

Undrafted guy with no passion had no chance. Heart and mental aspect is everything in terms of a player developing into what they can be.

Redskins undrafted rookie OG Sean Welsch from U of Iowa also decided to hang it up after one rookie mini camp. His story is a bit different. He has been battling depression for awhile. The word at Iowa was it had gotten better this year, but I can't help to think it had something to do with him stepping away from an NFL opportunity.

He was also the one player I was going to give Mingo a free pass on misspelling his name, no wonder Mingo wanted him to make the team. ;)

I liked him better than Peko in college, but after learning about his lack of passion I am not sad to see him go. It's just not for everyone. Some players are good but don't love the game. Others are average but love the game. I'd rather develop and give someone who loves the game the opportunity.

I don't want to make a joke out of Welsch's battle with depression, but if it was me - I'd be depressed if the Broncos didn't offer me a contract - but Washington did.

I read that there were passion and work ethic issues leading up to the draft and that is part of the reason he went undrafted. Gald he stepped away now instead of training camp as we can give someone else a chance to make their dream come true.

Too bad. I wouldn't have minded using a pick on him. Glad I found out this way that I was wrong instead.

Am I the only one who wonders - If you don't have passion for the game - why do you want to be a coach in it?

And how much influence do you have on the players under you when they know you quit?

Could be that he is more passionate about coaching then playing though. I'd really have to sit down on him one on one before I hired him to get the full story. Not like he is going right to the top of the rankgs of coaching either way. He has to prove himself in the coaching ranks. and who knows what level he wants to coach at. Maybe he has a passion for teaching young kids the game?
