I don't understand what the fuss is about. I have heard that it was one of the greatest horror movies ever, but I just didn't see it. Do you need to be religious to understand it or something?

The horror genre isn't for everyone... If you fail to see how good this movie is, then I would recommend staying away from the entire genre.

Or it could be that the OP was raised on new age cgi/fx horror so his expectations were as such. Cult classics are bigger for those that were around when they first came out. I could show the Exorcist to an 8 year old and he would say the same thing.

For it's time it was something.
I guess.
I'm with the OP.
The movie just never did much for me and I saw it at the theaters when it came out.
I liked it when I watched it, but that was about it.
rating it today if I watched it again???
6.5/10

When it came out in 1973, it was definitely something. There were reports of people so scared that they ran from theaters screaming, and others passing out.

I'm not saying it wasn't entertaining, it was. It might be that I went in expecting to be scared, but already knew much of the plot. BTW, There's no need to be demeaning or hurl insults because I dont agree with you about a movie.

The last 15 years of copies have ruined the excitement of this movie.

Have not seen it since the DC came out in 2000 and I couldn't keep a door closed in my house for weeks...
I think for me it's the realism of the movie and the lack of trying to seek a teenage audience like so many movies do today.

The acting is outstanding IMHO.

The shock value bar in movies has been raised a hundred fold in the last 20 years or so. Great movie, but pretty tame in those terms nowadays...

I kinda glossed over this part the first time I read it; I can only say from experience, if you are Catholic it sure doesn't hurt! ;)

This maybe why you didn`t get it........it was a helluva movie back then.........I think it still is myself.
Again, I never said it was a bad movie. I just don't think it's that scary. It was an entertaining movie though.

I`d give it a 10.............Linda Blair did an awesome job. So did the make-up artists............

I know this does not pertain to this thread........but damn you missed the best ever football team? The 85 bears?...........oh well wish I was your age.lol
Yeah, but I have a set of DVDs that have every game they played that year and watched them in action. I didn't live it though. No, for most of my existence, the Bears have completely sucked.

It was fun...........never a dull moment with that team.

Lots of characters.Especially Jimmy Mac and his ongoing rebelness.
William Perry and his weight.........With all his "Refrigerator" followers...
Payton being the jokester and pranks he`d like to play.....
Mike Ditka`s uncanny wit.........

So many of them.

The whole defense was a wrecking crew for a few years. And actually the 86 team was better statistically than the 85 team.

They were some fun times..............
