Why ??? Because he did what almost every player does??? Look after his best interest...And why cut off your nose to spite your face when you can get back an important piece of the O line at a good price ???

Yes. I realize that. That would have been my "angry" response. Lol. I'm glad he's back, for the sake of the line and the team. But, I still don't like the guy. ;)

Here's what happened. The dumbass Raiders overpaid and didn't realize it until after the contract was signed. Then they found a way out because he's not a starting LT in the league and they realized they overpaid. My guess is they sign a QB and draft an OT early in the draft.

This sounds like the most plausible story. Guess it worked out in our favor, though.

I'm not particularly over-joyed that Saffold is back. He is still injury prone, and all the reasons you guys were making that Oakland would be sorry for signing him are still valid, except that now they are OUR reasons. If he was still such a hot commodity why did he immediately run back to the Rams instead of trying for a more lucrative contract with another team?

The reasons are still there, but we got him at a good rate. The Raiders basically did what our front office couldn't, accomplish all offseason. Get Saffold to sign in St. Louis at a discount. Reportedly, for right around what we offered to him in the first place.

As far as looking for a more lucrative deal... well, the Raiders screwed him out of that one. Whether or not there's a "failed physical" out there, the word is out. Nobody is going to pay him what he truly wants now. That's why I still don't like the guy. Yes, it's a good thing for the team. But, it's not like he came back to St. Louis because he wanted to. He came back because he had no other choice.

I agree Caynine and Boss. The rest of the NFl is confirming what they all believe about the Rams and now Saffold. The ghost of the Queen Idiot is hangin' around.

Saffold and Bradford will be holding hands on the sideline and commiserating together over their hangnails and hemorrhoids and whatever other injuries they have collected by midseason. Just watch and see.

Dumb question here:
How in the hell does he fail their test, then come back and pass ours?? :wtf2:

It was a failed Xray. They didn't like the way his shoulder healed post surgery. Sounds like an excuse to me. Which is also fine by me. We got him at a discounted rate for a good player. He also has incentives so we can protect ourselves. Hopefully everything works out.

I'm with Blue and Clayton. I wanted him back! Now our draft strategy remains flexible.

Zeke - Our physical doesn't require you to be a head case.

I believe it was 2006 when Brees failed a physical in Miami and then signed with the Saints. Different doctors can interpret the same with different ways.

I put these numbers in a google search and this post came back as the top result. Id love for these to be the final numbers but I doubt it.

He is going to be making $6 million a year and he'll likely have play time incentives that will push him to close to the Raiders contract. $6 mill seems about right. $8 mill would be an overpay. Keep him at right guard. Hope he actually stays healthy :hope:

I read it on twitter, I believe a tweet by Jim Thomas. I can't find the tweet now so either I misremember or he deleted it. Should have quoted the tweet.

I just heard this on ESPN radio as well. I'm stoked!!!!
We got him for just under 6 a year and with injury incentives just in case he gets hurt. This is great news guys. We were all clamoring to keep him here in the first place.

Maybe the rams FO knew of this and possibly why they didn't react when he left. Something tells me they did.

Go Rams!!!

Suck it raiders.

Do I still get my ribs??? :suds:

Is he going to be playing LT early in the year until long is back or will they just leave him at guard?

I'll buy you a bucket or ribs w/ bbq sauce. Sounds like your FO fucked up royally. Offering a crazy overpriced deal without doing a physical first. Or they were reading the forums and didn't want fans to rush the field when Saffold gets hurt game #1, lol.

Either way we both win, you guys don't have to pay 8.5 mil a year and we pay under (from what reports say) 5 mil for our top rated guard. And you get your bucket of ribs. :suds:

I'm sure it depends on where J Long is with his injury. My guess is J Long will be back game 1.
I'm sure we'll sign some guys/draft/FA that can play LT for a game or two rather than shuffling around the whole line.

The contract is actually not that bad once you get past the guaranteed money. The Rams filled one of their biggest needs which was swing tackle in case Long isn't healthy while still being an elite guard if Long is healthy

Maybe Mike Davis had a change of heart and came up with the physical issues to wriggle off the hook.
