first half:
.843 OPS and .685 RBI per game

second half:
.681 OPS and .464 RBI per game

Last 10 games (in which the Mariners have gone 3-7):
6-34 with 0 extra base hits and one RBI

Seagar's second half slide has become a distrurbing trend for three years now and the dropoffs are not slight, they are dramatic. He needs to figure it out. And if he plays the next 10 games like he played the last 10 games, the Mariners do not have a prayer for the post season.

To be fair to Seags. He is trotted out there every day. I haven't looked at the stats but I bet he's right there with Cano for most games played. Because our team is so offensively challenged if he's not out there every single day our league worst offense goes to minor league levels.

I'm much more concerned with other guys not getting on base in front of Seager than I am about Seager himself right now.

1 guy can't carry this team, other than maybe Cano. The other pieces need to be getting on base and taking some pressure off of guys like Seager to do all the damage.

Has the shift that teams put on him getting in his head? He tried to bunt his way on tonight.

You guys are really trying hard not to look at the positives this year, huh?

Don't be ridiculous. Everyone knows how important Seagar is what he has meant to the offense this year. An entire book could be written on the subject. If you want a thread like that, I'm sure you can find one in here. Hell, we had one guy who was even comparing his value to Mike Trout.

But that is not what this thread is about. It is about Seagar (who will probably sign a multi year contract with the Mariners this fall) fading in the second half. It's a statistically proven fact, and if he is going to be our third basemen for as long as we control his contract (through 2017) and hopefully longer, he needs to figure out why he fades in August and September, and fix it.

It's a defense mechanism for a battered fan base who hasn't been given a product worth a damn since George Bush was on his first term...........

Yeah, but now that greenies and roids are gone I bet a lot of players fade in the 2nd half. It's a long season and the wear and tear must be unreal. There might be only 1 guy who tops 40 HR's this year. Good to see the game getting back to where it should be instead of throwing any type of strategy out the window and just have everyone swing away.

Right now, this team is guaranteed at least an 83-win season at worst with an outside shot at 90 wins being the best-case scenario. The predicted, and feared, second-half nosedive out of contention that it feels like we've seen over and over since 2009 (the last time the M's had a winning record) never happened. Felix's recent late-season nosedives didn't happen this year either. We're approaching the final week of the regular season cheering on a legitimate playoff contender.

After all that, people still want to focus on the negative? The offense hasn't been consistently good all year, and Seager and Cano were slumping. None of that matters now. What matters now is what happens over the next nine games. With the way they've been hitting in Minute Maid Park all year, the way they played Toronto at home for three games last month and with the possibility of facing mostly backups next weekend when the Angels come to town, I don't know how it's possible to focus on the negatives right now.

Expect better. Be happy with the year, but expect better. We aren't a new franchise.

Back to topic; What is the decline rate of other AL 3B's from 1st half to 2nd half? Just curious because I know Donaldson hasn't been the same player either. So maybe it isn't just Seager, but 3B's in general.

Seager is tied for 5th in RBI's (29) in MLB post A.S. break. Only 2 RBI's from being tied for 3rd. 4th in Homers (9). 12th in OPS (.751) with 3B with at least 100 AB's.

In comparison (Based on 2B): Cano 10th in RBI's (21), 5th in Homers (7), 3rd in OPS (.847)
