Do people pay money to watch this team?

they pay money to have a socially acceptable place to get drunk away from home.

of course, they could just go to a bar...

Yes, but is that "truly" socially acceptable?
Uh.... Yeah. Have you seen what has become of opening day? It used to be a nice, family parade through downtown. Now it's a drunken, puke-fest at the Banks.

Once again, is that really "socially acceptable" or just tolerated?

They've designed opening day around it. I'd say its more than just tolerated. A larger than desired number of fans that attend games could care less about sports.

I drive uber part time, if I'm picking someone up after a baseball game, they're usually a bit belligerent and wreak of beer smell. Pretty much, you get the idea that's just their preferred drinking spot.

That is interesting. I guess I am just a cheap ass, as I would rather go get a quality 6 pack of beer for the same price as one water downed American Beer at a ball game that costs the same. I never understood the need to get drunk in a public setting.

Brian Price fired. Everything’s great! Rebuild still on track.

Managers being fired and replaced is managements way of saying, we f'd something up, but we are not sure where we went wrong, so instead of blaming ourselves or the multi-million dollar contracts we are locked into, we will fire the coach. Firing Price, to bring in another coach who has the same crap to work with created no possibility of improvement except for a short 2 week window where guys might play harder knowing they caused this. Then they keep getting paid and go back to being lazy. Rinse and repeat.

he'll get a pitching coach job somewhere.

but yea, they needed to put some pressure on. It's pretty obvious we're finishing in last place no matter what, but at least a new manager has an excuse.

Unfortunately, so does management. "It was all Price's fault", which we know the truth. Fans are not as dumb as they make us out to be.

People I went to high school and college with have been losing their mind about how awesome the reds are this season.

so I finally check. they are getting beat down routinely by 10 or more runs. they are in last place, and 5-5 in their last 10 games.

WTF is wrong with people!?!??!?!?!?

I think most the praise you were seeing was before the Pirates series coming out of the All-Star break. They got crushed in that series, but overall, in their last 30-40 games they have been playing really good ball and averaging almost 6 runs a game from their offense.

That Pirate series made everyone throw up in their mouth a little. Just took 2 out of 3 from the Cardinals and lost in extra innings the other game.

They have the offense to compete for a World Series right now, and their defense is pretty good also. They just need a strong starting staff to bridge the gap to what has become a decent bullpen.

They are not going anywhere this year, probably finish last in the division again, but even finishing 5th and last in the division, they could make a run at .500 ball and give the fans and city something to look forward to next year if they can gather some pieces in the off season. Especially when they started off like 3-18 or something like that.

Don't look now - but the Reds are spending some serious cash - and on some players who are actually good.

Well, well.... Nice to see the team putting some chips in the middle of the table. This franchise has been given a pass by the fans for far too long. But this is certainly refreshing. Maybe Mikey will catch the fever.
