ehhh....milsap is not that bad as a free agent.

I mean, just for example- Boston didnt sign anyone for 20 years before just recently with Horford and Hayward.

When was the last time the Wiz signed an FA worth anything?

Washington isn't one of the top markets, and they have been horribly run for a long time. So of course they aren't getting anybody.

It isn't that Millsap is bad. The point is that a superstar player is not going to pick Minnesota or Cleveland when they have a ton of suitors willing to pay the same money. Unless, like LeBron, they have ties to the community already.

Top market has 2 variables. Mainly the size and then the backing. The top 3 will always be NYC, Chicago and LA. They are the 3 biggest cities and also have huge fan bases.
I think Philly/Dallas/Boston would be 4th-6th. Philly is the 5th largest city and though Phoenix is slightly larger it’s an awful sports town.

Climate is a pretty big factor too.

It is why Phoenix and Miami trump some of the markets listed.

Size is important, but like others have said, organizational competence trumps everything.

All I know is that OKC is 2 out of 3 in getting top players to sign here. And they are paying the most luxury tax of anyone in the NBA. Screw large markets.

They did not sign as free agents though.

Russ was drafted, and they traded for PG.

Both chose to resign in OKC, but there is a huge difference between resigning somebody and bringing in an elite FA.

You think George even considers OKC if he didn't play there for a year before free agency? I don't.

This is really a dumb argument.

Certainly New York and LA are the two biggest markets in the league. By far. Chicago is a distant 3rd.

But so what? Who was the last big name free agent the Knicks pulled in? Or the Nets? Or the Clippers?

Lebron James wanting to end his career in LA is more of a one off than the norm.

Every player has their own reasons why they want to go somewhere. For most players it is maximum revenues. For elite players other factors come into play but they vary by player.

Come on over! The Google campus is actually pretty cool. But there's hills and bike trails and beach too. The sourdough is amazing. Other good food too, sushi, Mission style burritos, etc.
Missionary style burritos, huh?

The reason? They are basically the only pro sport in the city.

You are being needlessly cruel.

Well, kind of hacky. Missionary position joke? You can do better.
Thanks for your confidence in me.

Surprised I'm not in a food coma. Ate 2 huge home-made sandwiches and on my 2nd beer.
