Also wouldn't surprise me that with this out of the way, he will be more focused now and get back to the Vezina winning form.

I don't blame them for locking him up for the next 7 years but $8.5 million seems a bit much for a goalie these days. Keep in mind Roberto Luongo said his contract was stupid & he "only" makes $6.714 million. Oh well, no point talking about that now. What's done is done. Congrats to Hank & the Rangers.

Sorry Stealth.

I think 7 years was a bit too long but I happy. He is about the only franchise guy we have on this team.

He said that because of the length of the contract and total value. Luongo signed for like 15 years

12:55PM: Katie Strang tweets that the deal includes a full No-Move clause for Lundqvist
12:17PM: Nick Kypreos said on Hockey Central at Noon, “They were fighting tooth and nail. They didn’t want to go 7 or 8. The feeling was that the vultures were out there and that the Flyers would have gone $9+ for Lundqvist and the Rangers knew it. I think the Rangers feel today that they got a bargain.”
Kypreos added, “What he needed was $10 or $11 million a year for four years. What they didn’t need was to go seven years. If he goes south in 3 or 4 years….”

Yeah true, Flyers probably would've gone 10 years at $9 million plus per year. That actually does seem like something the Flyers would do.

They always feel insecure about goaltending.

I understand they had to do this but considering Hank's age & the fact Cam Talbot has shown that replacing Hank might not be so hard, Rangers could've offered him something below $8.5 million. Really thought the contract would be in the $7 millions. My main concern is that now goalies all over the league will be asking for way more money, thus giving Bettman another reason to lock the players out when the current CBA expires.

Or MAF will ask for the same amount and at that point the Pens management laughs and closes the door in his face.

Whats funnier now that hank is locked up and if he starts losing he cant complain being backup because he recieved his contract ( NOTE: I dont want hank to lose!.....got it!)

I can't see MAF asking for more than what he makes now. That being said, I expect a lot more goalies to ask for $6 million, $7 million, $8 million, or even $9 million in the next few years.
