Based on the stats, I have made a list of Pirates who could find themselves in the All-Star game. So who do you think gets in?

McCutchen
Locke
Grilli
Melancon
Marte
Martin
Alvarez

I think McCutchen and Grilli are locks, and I think Locke and Melancon both absolutely belong, and I would consider it a travesty if either was held out, but I fully anticipate both to find themselves on the outside looking in.

Martin, Marte and Alvarez are toss-ups, but how fun would it be to watch Pedro in the home run derby? :D

So what do you guys think?

Agree, I think McCutchen and Grilli are locks, as they should be.

If you are going to take a middle reliever Melancon is as good a candidate as anyone, I would not take him. I would not take Locke either, as I don't buy he is this good, and I don't like giving the benefit of the doubt to a guy with a limited pedigree.

I think Martin/Pedro have arguments, but I don't expect either to make. Though Pedro should be in the HR Derby regardless.

I don't think Marte is an All Star yet, too much competition in the OF currently. In the future probably.

I'm going to go ahead and merge this thread with my previous one on the All-Star game, if you don't mind.

Not a problem better to have one. I didn't even notice you had one out there already!

David wright needs to get his head examined. Alvarez has hit more home runs than any player in the National league since the beginning of July of last year till today. He currently averages a home run every thirteen at bats. And wright picks Cuddyer and Harper :wtf: :tsk:

I won't be watching, and I hope Wright pulls a Jason Bay and doesn't hit any. What a jackass

Cuddyer is a bizarre pick to say the least.

Aside from AJ's ability to spell his last name correctly, Burnett makes a great point.

I read that Wright and Cuddyer are from the same town and that is why he's in, but what about Harper? Has hit 13 this season, and 35 total in his yet brief stay in the Nat'l League. Is he deserving of being an all-star... i suppose. Is he worthy of being in the HR derby over guys like Petey, Goldschmidt and Robinson?

That's easy

HELL NO! :lame:

Yea, Goldschmidt would have been a logical pick too.

Am I missing something, but who is Robinson?

Goldschmidt should've been in. My mistake on Robinson. I meant to say Dominic Brown of the Phillies. He currently has 23 bombs on the season

Well looking at the silver lining about Alvarez is the fact if he gets hot in the HR derby it might hinder his second half, ala Abreu. Poor silver lining but that is the best i can think of...

Well Bucs fans, things have changed. As Carlos Gonzalez is kind of banged up, I see that Alvarez was picked to be his replacement in the derby.

Now, if someone can get A.J Burnett some spelling lessons........

That was funny about Burnett good job spelling. Anyway that is cool but I am surprised Goldschmidt didn't get picked since he is playing a lot better.

At this rate, Pedro isn't even going to get an AB. Two hits for the NL...pathetic.
