I don't think anyone has mentioned this so far..

Before Pace moved up to nab Miller in the 2nd, he tried to move up to the end of the 1st to grab Alabama WR Calvin Ridley. So don't read too much into Pace gaga'ing for Miller because Pace obviously wanted Ridley even more.

Also gonna have to give credit to Noon, I didn't think Pace was going to go WR with either the first or the second but Noon was right.

I read that article too and I'm a bit suspicious as to whether or not it's true or just the latest Bears urban legend. But even it is, I'm damn glad the trade never went thru. We got the best LB (and 2nd fastest) in the draft and still landed what many believe to be one of the best receivers in this year's WR-thin class.

Yeah, when Pace mentioned that. I sort of figured it was for Ridely, who was falling.

I just wonder if it was more rope-a-dope, something Pace loves to pull on the media and fans. I'd rather have Smith 10 times over.

And now he wonders why he's failing as GM. He knows there's a good player there like Calvin Ridley who will make an immediate impact for the offense but he takes Miller. I don't understand what's going in Chicago these days.

Who says he's failing besides you?

He could have made the move to trade up to get Calvin Ridley but didn't.
Ok fine, assuming that's even true, something we really don't know for sure, but let's say it is true, why does that make him a failing GM?

This isn't the first time he's made a move like this. He's also had questionable free agent signings as well.

Not too surprising. Glad it didn't happen, but stories like this come out every now and then. I prefer to focus on what actually happen as much as possible when evaluating what the GM has done, but I can't lie I cringed when I read this.

Ehhh, I really question any 23 YO receiver out of Alabama with his athletic profile. I would bet he's just a solid #2. I would be stunned if he is a pro-bowler or anything like that. I got beef with Pace to be sure, but this past draft is not really a good argument if you want to crush Pace for whatever reason; pending on-field production of course.

Guess we'll find out in 2-3 years what kind of player in Calvin Ridley they missed out on. If he turns out to be a bust and the player they drafted turns into a stud the Bears won't have anything to be concerned about.

I doubt Ridley is a bust in the true sense, I just doubt he's worth trading up back into the first round for. I would wager he's a #2 in the NFL. Not a fan of spending a 1st on guys like that. Would it help? Yeah, but not as much as several other players available.

FTR, I am kinda indifferent on the Anthony Miller move myself.

Remember when Blackmon came out of the 2012 draft? They called him the best WR in the draft but when he got to the NFL he didn't really amount to much. I hope this doesn't happen with Ridley. He seems to have all the ability in the world to be a receiver for years to come.

I don't think he has all the ability in the world is the thing when I saw how he tests out + his age. He's just not comparable to an athlete like Julio, Watkins, or other builds like Hill, Jackson, etc. WR's like that are usually not stars in the NFL and if I don't feel like I am getting a star WR, I generally dislike drafting them in the 1st. Would rather pick up lottery tickets or sign FA's.

I agree, I'm sure not saying he's been perfect as a GM. He's had several questionable moves and signings. But when I see the phrase 'failing GM', that tells me he's been a bust at his job. Far from it.

If you wanna talk about failing GM's. Ryan Grigson comes to mind as does Tannenbaum

Blackmon was a monster of a WR. That was never the issue.

The issue was that he was Josh Gordon off of the field and didn't even make an attempt to get his life together.

That's where him and Josh Gordon differ. At least Gordon cares enough about football to want to turn his life around and be a prominent cog in the Browns passing attack.
