since no one is noticing A&M backed out in oct of 14
14 when Oregon played for the National Championship and went 13-2
coming off 11-2, 12-1, 12-2, 12-1 National Runner up, 10-3, 10-3
Clemson at that time was also doing well at the time but hadnt gotten fully over yet. 10-3 in 14 and 11-2, 11-2, 10-4, 6-7 in years before.
at the time is was like trading a top 10-5 team (Oregon) for a top 15-10 team Clemson
Yes it was noticed and white knighted by Oregon super fan @AlaskaGuy . What was also noted was when A&M switched conferences they had a conference game that week and needed to switch, Oregon refused and couldn’t find anyone in 4 years to replace it because of there obstinance.

Most other teams already had another game that week or a P5 somewhere else on the schedule at that time.

with Oregon/Pac 12 playing 9 conference games and Tennessee playing 8 conference and WVU to make 9 look at their 3 non P5 teams. East Tenn, UTEP and Charlotte. 3 teams that went a combined 6-30 5 of which were East Tenn FCS.
If you exclude the good teams on anyone's schedule, the schedule strength is going to look like crap.

Meh, take us out of there and the other two are 6-18.

A&M's last season in the Big 12 was 2011. Why wasn't the game with Oregon canceled in 2011 instead of 2014? Or did the two schools spend 3 years trying to come up with a date?

Oregon got screwed over by Aggy and they couldn't find a good last second fill in. Luckily Oregon has some good OOC games in the future.

2019 - Auburn (Arlington, TX)
2020 - Ohio State
2021 - at Ohio State
2022 - BYU (Still have an open spot here. Hoping for a bigger game)
2023 - at Texas Tech
2024 - Texas Tech, Boise State
2025 - at Boise State
2026 - Boise State
2027 - at Baylor
2028 - Baylor
2029 - at Michigan State
2030 - Michigan State

And 2022 spot is now filled. Playing Georgia in Atlanta.

To be honest, this likely isn't Oregon's fault. Most of the time, it is a headache for a Power 5 team to schedule another Power 5 team so they end up having to schedule these lower teams. I don't understand all of the paperwork behind it.

The SEC really messes the league up by scheduled conference games in Week 2. Why the heck are the two highest ranked teams in SEC East playing in week two (Georgia vs South Carolina).

Eyeballs, TV ratings, i.e. Money. It is all about the benjamins nowadays. Screw everything else.
