Mets: C Kevin Plawecki (broken left hand) and RHP Hansel Robles (sprained right knee) began rehab assignments at Triple-A Las Vegas. Plawecki hit a two-run homer and Robles pitched a wobbly inning. ... C Devin Mesoraco (bruised left elbow) was back in the starting lineup after coming off the bench Tuesday. ... Cespedes (strained right hip flexor) and Frazier (strained left hamstring) will accompany the team on its upcoming road trip so Mets trainers can continue to treat them.

Mets: Eight road games in seven days against two teams (Milw. & Atl.) currently in first place. LHP Steven Matz (1-3, 4.42 ERA) pitches Thursday night at NL Central-leading Milwaukee. Callaway offered support for closer Jeurys Familia, who blew his fourth save of the season Wednesday in a 2-1 loss to the Miami Marlins. "If you look at the numbers, he's been our best reliever," Callaway said. "The year he had 51 saves, his numbers (this year) are way better than that. He's having a career-year numbers-wise."

6 potential landing spots for Hanley Ramirez

The Mets gave Jose Bautista another shot, so perhaps they'll offer up a landing spot for Ramirez, who would bring another professional bat to a lineup ranked 27th in the league in runs scored. Ramirez hasn't played in the outfield since 2015, but Bautista hadn't played third base with any regularity since '11 before the Braves brought him in to play there. Boston would have to pay Ramirez the balance of his $22 million salary this season, meaning his next club would owe nothing more than the prorated portion of the league minimum.
