LOS ANGELES -- The New York Mets' charter flight made an unscheduled landing in Detroit on Thursday night because of a health issue involving WOR radio broadcaster Howie Rose.

The Mets were traveling from JFK to LAX for Friday's series opener against theLos Angeles Dodgers.

A source said Rose remained behind in Detroit for medical attention, but now is en route to New York. The flight resumed its trip to Los Angeles less than an hour later.

"The Mets' flight en route to Los Angeles yesterday landed in Detroit to allow WOR Mets radio play-by-play voice Howie Rose to see a doctor after feeling ill on board," WOR said in a statement. "Although he is feeling better, due to the lengthy travel, doctors have advised Howie to rejoin the team upon their return to New York next week."

LOS ANGELES -- After Noah Syndergaard and Clayton Kershaw pitched to a draw in an eventual 2-1 win by the New York Mets, the reigning NL Cy Young winner offered praise for his rookie opponent.

Syndergaard limited the Los Angeles Dodgers to one run, two hits and two walks, striking out six in six innings. Kershaw limited the Mets to one run in seven innings, but Kevin Plawecki delivered a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the ninth against closer Kenley Jansen.

"I was really impressed," Kershaw said about Syndergaard. "We all know when big prospects come up, they're going to have good stuff, but he really commanded the ball to both sides of the plate, threw some changeups in there, too. Just another Texas kid, what do you expect?"

Said Syndergaard: "When I stepped out there it was an unbelievable experience from the get-go -- a great atmosphere to play in, very cool stadium. It was awesome to step on the same mound as Clayton Kershaw. ... It was fun facing him as well."
