Waiver claim:

The Mets on Tuesday claimed infielder Jack Reinheimer off waivers from the D-backs, optioning him to Triple-A Las Vegas. To make room on the 40-man roster for Reinheimer, the team transferred outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who will undergo the first of his two season-ending heel surgeries on Thursday, to the 60-day DL.

Reinheimer, 26, was batting .237 with three home runs in 219 plate appearances for Arizona's Triple-A Reno affiliate. Capable of playing second base, third base and shortstop, Reinheimer briefly appeared in the big leagues last year for the D-backs, going 0-for-5 in two games. He gives the Mets upper-level infield depth with both Gavin Cecchini and T.J. Rivera rehabbing long-term injuries.

Injury updates:
Third baseman Todd Frazier, who is recovering from a strained left ribcage muscle, homered Tuesday during a rehab game for Class A Brooklyn. He will play again for Brooklyn on Wednesday, with an eye toward returning this weekend against the Braves.

Outfielder Jay Bruce is also making progress in his return from a strained right hip, with plans to take batting practice Wednesday for the first time since June.

Mets' Reyes makes history with 2 HRs in loss

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, infielder Jose Reyes of the NY Mets became the first player in modern major league history to allow multiple home runs as a pitcher and then hit multiple homers in his team's next game.

The only other player in major league history to allow multiple home runs as a pitcher, then hit multiple home runs as a hitter was Hall of Famer Cap Anson, who allowed two homers as a pitcher for the Chicago White Stockings on Aug. 5, 1884 and then hit three home runs on Aug. 6 of that season.

Mets' Cespedes to have heel surgery Thursday

NEW YORK -- Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes is set to have surgery on his heel Thursday, the first of two procedures that will likely sideline him eight to 10 months.

The Mets announced Wednesday that Cespedes will have surgery to remove bone calcification in his right heel. Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the operation in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Cespedes will have the same surgery on his left heel at a later date TBD by both parties.

The 32-year-old outfielder hit .262 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 38 games this season.

Cespedes has been limited by various lower leg injuries to 119 games since the start of 2017, the first season of his $110 million, four-year contract.
