The Los Angeles Kings avoided salary arbitration with centre Jordan Nolan, signing the restricted free agent to a two-year, $1.4 million contract on Friday.

The 24-year-old Nolan has two NHL seasons under his belt, all with the Kings who drafted him in the 7th round (186th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Nolan is coming off a season that saw him register two goals and four assists in 44 games, and has four goals and six assists through 70 career NHL games.

I like Nolan and am definitely happy we get to retain him for a few more years. He made a lot of mistakes last year but he is a heart and soul guy who will fight, mix it up, and create energy for this team. If he can control that energy a little better, this could really help out the depth on the bottom 6.

only about 1.5 million left in cap space for both them of them.

Someone on D is going to have to be moved.

Sucks if Toffoli doesnt make the roster because we have too many D and we cant send any down, lol.

A defender is moving for sure. My money is Muzzin or Martinez, particularly Martinez because he is more marketable.

No way they keep all the dmen or don't let Toffoli play. If there wasn't a playoffs last season Muzzin would have been nice bait

Catch 22 though - Muzzin was forced to play because of the extended injuries to Greene and Mitchell.

If those two injuries don't happen, Regehr and Ellerby aren't traded for and IMO Muzzin doesn't play as much and splits more time with Martinez. He's an OK support player but should not have seen as much time as he did, especially in the playoffs.

And I agree, a defender is moving.

Not at all, considering the Kings went back to the WCFs - first team in 3 years to do so the year after winning the Cup, so they showed they aren't a one trick pony.

But generally speaking, Ellerby + Regehr < Mitchell + Greene. Mitchell really proved to be the glue on defense the last few years and his presence was missed more than anyone's IMO.
