Every so often, I wish we had Yonder's bat.
Looking back, had Grandal been clean, he's clearly an upgrade over Corky.
Beyond that, analyzing the trade ... you can't do that unless you subtract somebody from the Reds pitching rotation.
Whoops ... we did that, didn't we?
Alleging Latos continues to get better and the Reds keep him long-term, the Reds win that trade. That said, I don't think I'd trade position players for a pitcher *most* of the time. In the case of Latos and J.J. Hoover, I'd be wrong, short-term, with that philosophy.
I still think Eddie Volcano can be a good pitcher but with the Reds, he seemed to have a crappy attitude. Will be interesting to see if Volquez can make any money on the FA market this winter.
It usually takes a while to evaluate trades. I think both teams got some value, and Latos has been terrific...I still believe Alonzo can hit ( he's on pace for 20HR/ 100 RBI), and I know Grandal can. The Reds opted for pitching and D, and that's what they got...and they do have holes in the offense that Alonso and Grandal ( when he returns) might have helped with. The Reds were worried about Alonzo in LF, but ironically, Donald Lutz is there now...
