Oh yeah, I remember now. There was a lot of talk about putting a BMW engine in the Land Rover Discovery to replace the ancient, shitty Buick engine that had been in it forever.

Some of the Tata shit is a real trip.

I wouldn't spend a nickel on a kraut car.

Tata Motors is India...and apparently many share your opinion!

I'd buy one of those Harley Davidson's made in India before I sent a nickel to Berlin. I'm not buying anything German if I can help it.

German shit sucks now anyway. Mercedes are a sad reminder of what they were in the 80s and 90s. BMWs continue to get uglier and the new Audi is riddled with problems. I have a client that just "lemon lawed" his new $80k Audi Q7 because the computer system wouldn't work no matter what the dealership tried and the company wouldn't be decent about it. And VWs are worse than all of them now.

I say if you're going to get a Rover, get a real one as a grey market import:

But don't get caught!

Alright, we're home. The final decision is : She hates car shopping and decided her Sentra is good enough for now.

My wife's 2016 Toyota Sienna is a piece-of-shit! Even the start button only works about 90% of the time. I'll never understand why people like the boring and lame.

Have her test drive a top of the line, slightly used Grand Cherokee with the best interior and THEN go test drive a RRover. You have to give a woman what she asks for! The best you can do is make better suggestions under the guise of hers being a great idea.

She'll prefer the GC and you'll be in one for 25 grand instead of a foreign money pit.

She drove a Nissan Xterra that she kind of liked. Doesn't like the looks of the Cherokee, too soccer mom-ish. She wants something that looks like a rugged utility vehicle. She almost went for a Rubicon that was loaded with all the off road crap she'll never need. I would have been alright with that one.
She's kind of a redneck. I think it's sexy....

Cheap as fuck...?

Even if the LR proves reliable, even basic maintenance is more expensive.
I too have been researching some Land Rover Range Rover Sports for the wife....Up keep is expensive.
Go with a Ford or Lincoln.

Bingo.

My brother just dumped his because just about anything you have to fix is like at least $600.

My wife has a '15 GC Summit now. Great vehicle.
Rides nice, handles nice.
Great power, decent gas mileage.
Usable space, but not to big.
Handsome, not ostentatious.
Comfortable, luxurious and all the toys.

Mostly reliable...New water pump at 42k, still smell anti-freeze, service 4 wheel drive system, service traction control, new drive engagement motor, all by 44k.

We are less than impressed after our last....4 were trouble free.
'06 Lincoln LS was traded fro the Jeep at 85k, I had just put new coils on. That was it.
'93 SHO Taurus was sold with 135k, clutch and shocks were the only maintenance items.
'90 Escort was starting to puke oil back into the intake at 125k
'90 Chevy 1500 had 225k and needed an EGR valve on the 305.
'01 Explorer is at 212k now and I did alternator and water pump in the last 2 years.
And my '04 F-150 has 180k and it has needed an alternator.

I never have shit break until my new GC. Having some kind of tranny malfunction with 600 miles on it was just one of those things. The mechanic said he'd never seen that before and the company stepped right up to bolt a new one in. But I think water pumps n such go because of the salt corrosion up there.

Everybody should consider going on a used car buying vacation to FL or AZ. All the old fuckers down here put very little wear on their cars...crawling around in the left lane. With no salt on the roads, the age becomes less important than mileage. I've owned so many cars only because there are great ones all over...especially around Easter when seasonals are headed back up north for the summer and plan to bring something else next winter.

My family and I have had nothing but problems with Fords. I will never own another one.

We've always had great luck with them. My last truck had 265k miles before I sold it to my brother. He's still driving it. My wife loved her explorer.
My next truck will probably be a Ford. I'm driving a Dodge right now.
