The Lighning kicked off their 2017-2018 season with a 5-3 win but fell to the Panthers 5-4 the following night in the sunrise.
I must say that the Panthers were the better team in both games, Lightning did enough to pinch a win the home opener but last night despite going in to the 3rd period 3-2 up they didn't deserve to win the game at all. The Panthers looked had more jump to their game and looked the more sharper team as they did in the 1st game. It's early doors but if the Lightning want to meet the high expecations that have to play with more urgency and take a leaf out of the Panthers book a shoot the puck rather than look for the fancy play which seems to be getting reptitive year by year now, luckily the bolts have the skill that bails them out at times.
Lightning will need to improve their play as the Caps with a red hot Ovi come to town, followed by the Stanley cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins, followed by a very solid St. Louis Blues squad. It is early doors but the bolts can't afford to get off to a bad start, it's hard to play catch up this league so the bolts need to up their game on this 3 game homestand, if not they could easily find themselves 1-4 to begin the season.
