Call him the best ever? I'll compare him to another PG, The Big O.

Robertson: 5x averaged 30+ ppg & 10.5+ assists. Averaged @ least 30 ppg 6x.
Harden: has never averaged 30 & 10. Averaged @ least 30 once.
Great point.

I suffer from recency bias.

The big O was way before my time.

I'm clueless about evaluating players pre-Magic and Bird.

I appreciate all the eras of the game. And I think the Big O is 1 of those rare throwback players that would do just fine in today's NBA.

Call him the best ever? I'll compare him to another G, The Big O.

Harden: has never averaged 30 & 10. Averaged @ least 30 once.

Harden's 3 point shooting is something also that we never had a chance to see with Robertson. The evolution of basketball has to be factored in to skill-set, but I see where you're going with this. Hard to argue against a guy like the Big O.

Also Oscar has to be rated above Westbrook too as an offensive player. The reason being for me is that his FG% is much better than Russ, if you're just comparing Oscar's overall percentage and Russ's 2PT percentage.

Well shit there goes my argument

Sure you didn't steal it from Charles? LOL

Following the game Sunday vs Minnesota, Charles asked the question to the other guys in the studio.

They disagreed.

Honestly a coincidence. I actually don't know if I think he is that's why I put up the question to hear you guys' takes. He's definitely one of them.

Kenny & Shaq said he's top 5 but not #1.

Russell Westbrook - Wikipedia

Russ is a great player & I like watching him play. But he doesn't have the resume the Big O has, or @ least not yet. And I'm not badmouthing Russ. But I'll compare his career #'s to the Big O just like I did w/ Harden.

Robertson: averaged 25+ ppg 9x, 10+ rebs 3x, led league in asts 7x, career .485 shooter
Westbrook: averaged 25+ ppg 3x, 10+ rebs 2x, led league in asts once, career .435 shooter

I think there's multiple ways of defining this. You can look at it from pure production, you can look at skill set, you can look at efficiency, etc.

I just think whatever metric you use, puts a different guy at the top of the list. Like if you just answer MJ, no one could really ever debate you because you'd have all this ammo at your disposal.

What puts O above Russ for me is that Oscar had a 48.5% FG percentage and without a 3 point line averaged 25.7 Pts for his career. Russ on 2PT percentage alone is 46.4%.

I'm not saying he's better or as good or worse. Different eras. But if you mention O you have to mention Westbrook.

If the Nba has the balls to call him for traveling every time he takes a 3 this wouldn’t be a convo.

Along with the ridiculous arm flailing he gets away with

Eh.

Looking at simple stats doesn't tell the story here at all.

First, Harden faces much stiffer competition today than O faced in the early 60s. Yes, the rules favor offense more today, but the league average player in 1960 pales in comparison to league average today. Second, Harden's efficiency is much better.

and jumping into defenders to get free throws...?

he does that more than in the league it seems...

Obviously James Harden will never be a two-way player. But just that one thing, as an offensive threat (scoring, assists, etc), is it fair to call him the best ever?
No. Curry is better.
