I need to find something else by Jim Butcher to read. I like his stuff. I have been considering Codex Alera.

I prefer it to Dresden. Codex Alera is one of my favorite series out there.

Cinder Spires was a disappointment to me though, I am hoping I will like book 2 more.

same here on Cinder Spires

I still love Dresden though. It has gotten a little off from what it originally was though. I guess after 15 books it is bound to go in another direction.

I am also looking forward to the next Gentlemen Bastards book, whenever that comes out.

He is fantastic. I am glad he got picked to finish Wheel of Time, It led me to a lot of great books.

I really like his legion series. It was planned for a tv series at some point, but now would need to be renamed for that to be true.
I read the first 3-4 books of WOT and got bored. I tried to pick it up again and couldn't' To follow it I would have to start back at he beginning.

The middle of that series drags on. Book 6 is the one where most people that stop call it quits. When Sanderson takes over it picks up a lot. Was not his baby so he was not so attached to everything the way Jordan was. And he clearly was getting the "Wrap it up" signal from the publisher.

I actually wanted to get back into it when Sanderson took it over.

I can't even remember where I left off. I might have been at 5-6 even. it's been 10 years lol.

Respectfully disagree. He's good at building magic systems, but his characters... meh.
His characters are some of the most interesting I've encountered in the genre to be honest. I don't pay much attention to his magic systems because that's usually the thing that annoys me with fantasy (I'd rather it not exist) but his characters and in general, the concepts/plots he employs are just original and well thought out.

He's probably my favorite "working" writer in the genre.

Like page 2 of the first mistborn book?

His characters are better in the second series for Mistborn, and his work with Stormlight is his best work so far IMO.

I don't know. The characters and story in the Final Empire really stuck for me. I dug that (as well as the story and fantastic conclusion) way more than I'm digging the Wax and Wayne thing (although that's still very good).

Stormlight is brilliant top to bottom.

I did not care for Vin, Kelsier, or Eland from final empire, and that was 95% of the POV. Wayne cracks me up, I wish he got more chapters in the second series.

Huh. Kelsier is one of my favorite fantasy characters of all time. He's up there with the Tyrion and Roland for me. Vin didn't bother me at all. Eland I can agree. Dude was a pussy.

He was needed for the story, but I did not really care for him.

I read one or two of those books, and waved the white flag. Different strokes I guess.
