A pretty mediocre career last few years, but a classic Howie signing in the sense that he is filling holes before the draft so he is not forced to take any one position. He's done this at LB, TE etc.

Rodgers has great hands but has marginal speed and is not a good blocker. He does well as a receiver in the red zone.

TEs can be very slow to develop.

I've said a few times, we are going to need a VET TE and also a high potential draft TE pick as well. It is our greatest need right now, after losing both Celek and Burton. This is our vet presense, behind Ertz. A downgrade from Burton, clearly, but lets see who we get in the draft as well. Whoever it might be, even if a nice pickup is done at 32, it will likely not be a huge contribution in year 1 anyways - so we are going to need Rogers to step up. If Ertz gets hurt, we are screwed.

Yes. Not going to turn a lot of heads, but a good reliable player who shows up every day and does his job.
