Lost of good stuff here today.

Heath Quinn heating up.

Adon set a career high in K's with 9, most of them on his slider. He's got the fastball down, needs to refine his secondary stuff. Great step today.

The highlight of the day, though, was Ramos. Feats your eyes:

I could watch this all day

It's slow-mo, but minor league slow-mo so it looks weird
But it looks like he starts slower than his actual swing. Like there is hesitation.

Am I seeing things, or I see that actually there?

If you watch it with the "live" video and compare, it looks like that hesitation is him pulling his hands in, then exploding to the ball.

I see it too, in the gif. It looks like he starts and stops, but I think it's just cruddy MiLB video editing

Sunday 4/29

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Giants got a clean sweep today, with every affiliate and the big club getting victories.

AAA: Sacramento River Cats WALKED OFF 7-6 (11-12)

Steven Duggar 1-2, 4 BBs (!), 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB (4th)
Chris Shaw 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 R, 2 K
Orlando Calixte 2-3, HR (1st), 2 RBI, 1 R

Jose Flores 4.2-4-5-0-4-1. Sloppy day from Flores, and his defense. All runs un-earned, but 4 walks.
Tyler Rogers 1.0-1-0-0-1-2
Will Smith 1.0-1-0-0-0-1
Jose Valdez 0.1-2-1-1-0-1
Manny Parra 2.0-3-0-0-0-1

Smith's final rehab appearance is another good one. In 5.2 innings, he's given up 2 hits, no runs and has an 8/0 K/BB ratio. In 7.1 total innings, he has an 11/0 K/BB with 2 ER. Scheduled to be activated Wednesday

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels WON 3-2 (14-8)

Ronnie Jebavy 4-4, 1 R. Great day, but couldn't do much with it.
Dylan Davis 1-3, HR (5th), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB

Shaun Anderson 6.0-5-2-1-1-6
Dusten Knight 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Dan Slania 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Ray Black 1.0-0-0-0-0-2

Anderson was sharp yet again. He has 28 Ks in 28 innings, against just 6 walks. Also just 24 hits. He's gone at least 5 innings each time, and has given up more than 1 run only twice (3 runs both times). Remember this is only his second year starting, he was a reliever in 3 years at Florida. He's doing all of this in AA in his second year, basically. Exciting stuff from him.

The bullpen was prefect in 3 innings, including Ray Black who now has 4 clean outing out of his 7 total. Remember this is a guy who has 80 walks in 100 innings in his MiLB career (but also 195!! strikeouts).

A+: San Jose Giants WON 5-4 (14-10)

Jacob Heyward 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB
Sandro Fabian 3-5, 1 R, 2 K
Heath Quinn 3-5, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Wander Franco 3-5, 2B, 1 R
Johneshwy Fargas 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB (7th)

How the 3-4-5 hitters each had 5 hits, and the 6th place hitter had two hits, and they only scored 5 runs I'll never know.

Mac Marshall 3.0-3-0-0-0-5
Sandro Cabrera 4.2-10-4-4-2-5
Patrick Ruotolo 1.1-2-0-0-0-1

You may recall Mac Marshall for being the guy the Astros had to give up because they failed to sign Brady Akien. The next season the Giants swooped him up and things have since been pretty rocky for him. He's struggled with command and serious injury problems, limiting him to just 32 games since being drafted in 2015. An elbow procedure kept him out of action most of 2017, but he's basically been working on building his strength back since then and the Giants have been careful with him.

Since returning, he's beginning to show glimpses of the guy who was ranked as the top high school lefty in 2014. He has 12 scoreless innings so far with 15 K's. His last two outings he hasn't walked any batters. His fastball is topping out at 95 as well. The Giants are limiting him to 3 innings per start so far, and that'll probably continue a little while longer, but if the Giants get the high-upside guy back it could be a huge boon for the system.

A: Augusta GreenJackets WON 2-0, their 8th in a row (17-6)

Ryan Kirby 1-3, HR (3rd), 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K

Garrett Cave 4.0-2-0-0-4-7
John Russell 2.0-1-0-0-0-2
Camilo Doval 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Franklin Van Gurp 2.0-0-0-0-0-2

Cave struckout 7 of the first 11 batters he faced. Russell was a big strikeout guy coming out of UCONN, and has continued that in his pro career with 13 K's in 10 innings this year and 51 K's in 35 total innings.

Dovall's has put his utter disaster to open the season behind him, with 6 straight scoreless outings. He gave up 8 runs in 1.1 innings (3 games) to start the year with 8 walks. Since then he's gone 6.1 innings, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K's. This is the kid that has the Kenly Jansen cutter (sometimes).

Van Gurp has been a stud as well. Only 3 baserunners in 12 innings, 15 K's.

Augusta gave up 2 runs in their entire series against the Fireflies.

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats lost 9-5

Orlando Calixte 3-4, HR (2nd), 2 RBI, 2 R
Hunter Pence 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB
Chase d'Arnaud 3-5, 3B, 1 R

Tyler Beede 4.2-10-8-5-5-6
Dillon McNamara 2.1-1-1-1-0-4
Madison Younginer 1.0-0-0-0-2-1

Rough line for Beede. Not trying to make excuses for him, but Vegas is a launch pad and he gave up 3 homers. His defense was also sloppy behind him. Still the five walks are all on him, and this has really been a problem since college that he's never fixed. It could ultimately end up being his downfall. He has good stuff, enough that I could see a Jeff Samardzjia career out of him if he ever established command. He has time on his side still, but right now is an opportunity for him and he isn't seizing it.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 3-1 (14-9)

Jordan Johnson 1-2, HR (2nd), 1 R, 1 RBI

Jordan Johnson 6.1-3-2-2-2-5
Caleb Simpson 0.2-2-1-1-0-1
Will LaMarche 2.0-0-0-0-0-2

For a while there, Johnson was going with the MadBum approach of hit a homer and pitch a shutout. He was strong through 6 innings allowing just two hits and a walk. In the 7th he allowed a double and then a walk, and Simpson came in and allowed both runners to score. Johnson has a fastball that gets up to 95 and a filthy chanegup, but not much of a slider of curve. Probably a future reliever.

A+: San Jose Giants WON 13-6 (15-10)

Johneshwy Fargas 3-5, 2 HR (1st and 2nd), 2 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB (8th)
Jalen Miller 3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI
Wander Franco 4-4, 2 2B, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB (3rd), 1 CS (2nd)
Sandro Fabian 1-5, HR (2nd), 2 RBI, 1 R, 2 K
Jacob Heyward 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Have a day, San Jose offense. Fargas' third shot in San Jose is finally going well. He hit .181 in 67 games across two seasons in High-A, but this year is hitting .433 so far. He's always been an intriguing talent, but really raw.

Raffi Vizcaino 3.1-4-4-4-4-7
Carlos Diaz 3.2-3-1-1-0-2
Dylan Rheault 2.0-1-1-0-0-2

Weird game for Vizciano. Struckout 7 of the 18 batters be faced, but was all over the place. Not really effectively wild.

And he was DFA’d and RELEASED. This dude’s rotting carcus was essentially left at the side of the road, and he is making this comeback. Good luck, and good job so far, kid!!

I'm mildly surprised that he didn't go to another org when the Giants released him

Tuesday 5/1

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats WON 5-1 (12-13)

Eury Perez 2-4, HR (1st), 3 RBI, 2 R, picked-off
Ryder Jones 2-3, 1 RBI
Steven Duggar 0-3, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 error, picked off. Pretty rough day for Duggar. Put it behind you, kid!

Matt Gage 5.1-8-1-0-0-1
Jose Valdez 2.0-0-0-0-0-1
Manny Parra 1.2-1-0-0-1-1

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 8-2 (14-10)

Luigi Rodriguez 3-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB (5th)
Jerry Sands 1-3, HR (4th), 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K

Luigi has been off to a pretty great start thus far. In 19 games, he's batting .400/.492/.564 with 5 steals and a 17/9 K/BB ratio. Plays CF, he's shown solid power in the past (31 homers last 3 years) and speed (44 steals) in limited time (240 games). He's this year's Slade Heathcott.

Mike Connolly 4.0-2-0-0-0-7
Jake McCasland 2.0-7-6-6-1-2
Dan Slania 1.0-0-0-0-0-2
Tyler Cyr 2.0-1-2-2-2-2

A+: San Jose Giants lost 2-1 (15-11)

Johneshwy Fargas 1-3, 2B, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 SBs (9th and 10th), 1 CS (3rd), 1 error, 1 outfield assist. Stuffing the stat sheet.
Jalen Miller 1-3, 3B, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Melvin Adon 7.0-6-2-1-4-5
Nolan Riggs 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Rodolfo Martinez 1.0-1-0-0-0-0

Solid stuff from Adon, not great. Was throwing 97 into the 7th.

A: Augusta GreenJackets lost 6-4

John Riley 2-4, HR (2nd), 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 K
Orlando Garcia 1-4, HR (1st), 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K

John Gavin 6.0-1-0-0-1-9
Olbis Parra 2.0-3-3-2-0-0
Peter Lannoo 0.0-2-3-3-1-0

Let's start with the good. Gavin is a soft-tossing control lefty and he's, not surprisingly, chewing through the SALeague right now, a league with a bunch of guys who've never seen anything move this much, with command. Gavin does have an excellent changeup, though, and a good curveball. His fastball is 88-90.

We just wont talk about the bad.

Wednesday's Probables:

Sacramento: Derek Rodriguez
Richmond: Garrett Williams
San Jose: Logan Webb
Augusta: Jose Marte
