Right now I'd settle for temperatures above zero.

I think it is a fair expectation to say the division will be a battle between the Lams and Niners. SB contenders is a bit of a reach, but certainly possible.

LOL yea but it would take won't heck of an offseason. The offeseason before that super bowl season the 49ers drafted a pro bowl secondary in Lott, Williamson, and Wright and drafted Pete Kugler. They also picked up Fred Dean that year.

IMO we need a little more defense to battle for the NFC West. The Rams are now the best team and we need more D to slow them down.

While Seattle is 'fading' from their best years, they're still good enough to best us. Wouldn't underestimate Arizona either, even with their issue at QB.

Dean was the key. They took off after they got him. I remember they signed him right before the Dallas game and he tore them up. Dallas players were thinking he wasn't even in the league any longer.

I think Seattle's run is over. Without Thomas, Sherman and Chancellor its going to be tough on defense.

I didn't know that about the Dallas players. He was a stud. And Board was pretty good rushing from the other end. Board was a reject from another team too

Dean was a beast in San Diego as well but somehow he got in the dog house there; I can't remember why.

Contracts. The Chargers started building an awesome team but Eugene Klein was a cheap POS. The most notable guys I can remember leaving due to contract impass were Dean and John Jefferson.

I think I remember that. Dean was a holdout until mid-season and then SD traded him to the 49ers rather than meet his salary demands. Isn't that correct?

I believe so. I think neither Jefferson or Dean played anytime for the Chargers in 1981. Dean's first game was against the Cowboys that year for SF, which was sometime around week 5 or so.

He dominated in that game. First time they beat the Cowboys in a long time. Crushed 'em something like 45-14.

Oh yeah.....I still remember hearing some Cowboy players sayin' 'well that wasn't the Cowboys out there' or something to that effect. SF took it to Dallas several games after when they were still good....1981 NFCCG, 1983, 1985.....and then Dallas became shit.

Good times...good times.

Still the sweetest victory, hands down, was the 28-27 NFC championship game where they got revenge on Dallas for 70, 71 and 72.

I'd agree...but I was at XVI so that'll be #1 with me forever.

16 was almost an after thought for me after what they did to Dallas. Don't get me wrong; I was excited that they won but to me nothing could top that Dallas game.
I think its because as a kid, before I left the Bay Area, the 49ers only made the playoffs three times (70, 71 and 72) in my entire life and each time Dallas knocked them out. It was devastating; especially the "Staubach coming out" game. Made me absolutely sick.

Oh I get it.....I was fucking pumped for that SF/Dal game, but going to the Super Bowl was just an entirely different experience. Definitely the best overall time to be a Niner fan for me....not even close.

I heard that was the coldest Super Bowl on record. Good thing it was inside. The Bengals gave the 49ers all they could handle twice in the Super Bowl.
