In my Pollyanna world, it is Kadri because we sign John T :D

I see your point, but does it make sense to pay Nylander $6-7M if that is his role? Developmental centre? If that was the plan, it would have been better cap management to put him at C for the last two years and develop him at a reasonable cost.

But it does make sense, given the relative depth of the current players in the organization

As I said though, it's not a permanent role. And Kadri is enough of a bargain as the 2nd centre that it's not even really a short term problem while he's in the role either.

Now you made me go look at capfriendly.com
Most important factoid: The Leafs current C with the highest cap hit is....Plekanec :pound:

/That was for @Bloody Brian Burke

What do you expect Nylander to sign for? Looking at the current centres, $6M is OK, but $7M per is too high.

And FWIW, the team that currently has sunk the most into their top 2 centres is Pittsburgh at a combined cap hit of $18.2M. When Matthews resigns, I am a little nervous (again from a cap hit POV) TOR will be in that territory with him and Nylander. And I am not convinced 34+29 = 87+ 71

I don't think either Marner or Nylander will be getting more than Pasternak got, if that.

Hope you are right.

Just looked at Pastrnak's contract, wow that is a goofy salary structure. Total actual salary incl bonuses: 8M this year, then 8, 6.8, 4, 6.8, 6.4

I suppose the $4M in the middle is a possible lockout year, but interesting how the cash is so frontloaded. Makes me think he has a need for cash quickly and PayDay Loans couldn't handle it.

Interesting website.

I'm inclined to agree with Katya's conclusion. If need be next year, sure, slot him in at C, but for now it still makes far more sense that he play as Auston's linemate and long term that still may be the ideal position for him.

I agree, if the team is able to acquire/develop enough depth at centre to allow Nylander to play the wing that is the ideal route to take. But that seems like a pretty big "if" to me right now.

And they do have options, even beyond Tavares. They could go after Stastny, they have the ammo to pull a trade for one if they want, etc.

So that was the only 3rd period blown 3 goal lead of the year then, right? That won't happen again? For sure? 110%??

Guessing JVR has added at least half a mil a year to his next contract the past week. What a tear he's on.

When do they start to sit Plekanec? I'd much rather see Gauthier there than him at this point.

JVR - basically a 30 goal guy for 4 years straight. As much as I love John T, I would rather the Leafs use the cap space to resign JVR.

Plekanec - I think you are stuck with him. At least until Round 2. The "Marchand-killer" rep alone will keep him in the lineup. Well, at least for the home games when Babs can get the line up match he wants.

Nah. Love JVR but JT is a team-changer. The Leafs will slot Johnsson and Grundstrom in at LW and let the system do what it's supposed to do.

They should do all they can to get JT.
