The 25 -year old has a current 8 game hit streak and is 21/64, .328, in his last 19 games since 7/22/15. Since July 11, he's 24/82, .292, but only 2 HRs and 8 RBIs.

The Phils signed Asche after 3 yr. at U. Neb.: 22 HR, .312/.387/.542. We were excited when he got the call after two good years on the farm. And we never expected him to hit 30 HRs.

2012, AA: 12 HR,.324/.369/.481
2013, AAA: 15 HR,.295/.352/.485

Thru college and the minors his numbers are very consistent but so far, in 2013-2015 for PHL in 262 games, he's managed 21 HR, 89 RBI, .251/.303/.390, 50 points below his norm. So he's just a replaceable average MLB player at this point. But he's not a bust yet after barely two full years and based on his recent improved stats. Next year might be his full bust out year.

By the way, the numbers of Nick Williams, 22, in the minors, 4 yrs, A/AA, 48 hr, .291/.349/.446, are amazingly similar to those of Asche in the minors. Will Williams hit a snag when he moves up to AAA? No guarantee but it will be interesting watching.

I hope he stays hot for the rest of the season and puts up some decent numbers but honestly I don't think he is going to hit enough to be a major league leftfielder. And I don't believe what he has done so far is anywhere close to a replaceable average mlb leftfielder. The Phillies have had plenty of corner outfielders that weren't that great defensively but if you're gonna be that guy you damn well better hit better than .251/.303/.390, a lot better. I hope you're right and he's making progress, but if he is it is extremely slow. Not saying Williams or Altherr or anyone else will do better but I'm glad we at least have some guys hitting in the minors this year. .
I am not trying to basche Asche or anything but the clock is ticking so if he is going to prove me wrong I'd like him to do it before he's 30.

Yeah, it's ticking and there's talent in the wings, we believe. Some guys like Asche may just take a few years to get it going.
