ROCKY RIVER -- Reports indicate Indians closer Chris Perez could face drug possession charges following a bust last night at the home he and his wife are renting.
Rocky River police said on June 4 a multi-jurisdictional operation was conducted involving the West Shore Enforcement Bureau Narcotics Task Force, the U.S. Postal Investigative services and the Rocky River Police Department concerning the controlled delivery of narcotics to a home on Park Lane Drive.
Police said they are awaiting test results from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation regarding the contents of the delivered package.
Officials confirmed that the listed residents of the address is Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Chris Perez and his wife, Melanie.
Police also confirmed that the couple has two children younger than age 3 living at the residence.
"The matter at this time is still under investigation and no charges have been filed," the police spokesperson said.
Rocky River Police Chief Kelly Stillman is scheduled to speak to the media regarding the matter at noon.
Cleveland Indians General Manager Chris Antonetti said the team was notified and is looking into the matter.
"Earlier this morning we were made aware of a situation involving Chris Perez that occurred yesterday in Rocky River," said Antonetti in a statement. "We have talked with Chris and are currently in the process of gathering additional information."
