Cousin's went straight down the field on them in his one series. He did not do that to Jacksonville who has one of the best pass defenses in the league.

If you recall, Smith's 1st pass as a Redskin almost resulted in a sack as he had zero time to throw (Oline got beat) but Smith's agility allowed him to get the pass off thus no sack. He really didn't look rusty to me. More like he needs time on the field with his teammates to get in sync before 9/9.

we cant really afford a loss to the cards . and any problems caused by rust or lack of continuity are on the staff .

i can see why trent and reed and even CT are being held out but over and over again on opening day and coming off byes i have seen unprepared redskins football teams take the field and get spanked

If they aren't ready two weeks before the start of the season then they just aren't ready. Jay coddles them too much.

Redskins' 'dress rehearsal' game will feature some understudies

We should see Alex Smith for the first half. He did not play at all in the preseason opener and he took just 10 snaps against the Jets last Thursday. Figure that the offense will take about 35 snaps in the first half, meaning that Smith, in his first year in this offense, will go into the season opener on September 9 with fewer than 50 preseason snaps under his belt. For comparison, last year Kirk Cousins, who was starting his fourth year in Gruden’s offense, played 83 preseason snaps.

We will find out if Smith had enough preseason work in about 16 days.

its really unfair to smith in my opinion
