Phillies trade for Marlins 1st baseman Justin Bour. Marlins get a low level pitcher in return. Phillies recall the useless Crawford and released Thompson. Bour will be used as a pinch hitter against righties and may get an occasional start. He only plays 1st base. Crawford was hitting just .158 in the lowest level for the Phillies.
I would rather have Florimon instead of Crawford. But it is what it is!

Bour is another good pickup. A good LH hitter, .262/.346, 5 years, plus hit 17 of his 19 homers this year vs RHP with .360 OBP. Stats say 4.6 WAR.

Guess they want JP. for his speed.

It seems that the Philies have found aa decent power bat off the bench.

Phillies must send someone down today to add Bour on the roster. Kingery or Crawford? Which would you choose?

Tough call. At .194, Crawford is in some trouble at the plate, but his OBP of .312 is more valuable than Kingery's .223/.266. But Kingery has 5 homers to JP's 2, but JP has 1/4 the ABs. JP K's at 35%, Kingery at 25%.

I think Kingery can bust out and be more explosive so I'd send JP down if that's the choice.

When they move to expanded rosters next month, Joey Meneses, 26, LHV, would be a good candidate to call up. Solid numbers - .314/.364, 22 HRs, 73 RBI, originally from Braves system.

Now it seems that the Phillies have room for both. Go figure!

Good. That's because they recently dumped Plouffe, JaKe T., and Florimon.
Hold on! They just sent Efln to the iron Pigs to make room for Bour. They will bring Eflin back on Thursday for a doubleheader. they can have 26 on hand for doubleheaders.

I was first going to say what, are they sadists? You belong on CSN with your inside info!

similar to Franco, they are/were both top prospects. They signed Kingery (through arbitration) on the fact he was going to break out this year and didn't want to hold him back. Would every day at bats help him out at this point or would the "demotion" hurt the confidence? I mean, he wasn't a SS, so Crawford should provide better D, not sure about Cabrera at this stage, but he hasn't done what he was expected to do at the plate by far.

Nice to see the Phillies improve the bench for the coming weeks, but fuck they need to kick it up a notch in the starting lineup. Came into the year thinking the hitting was going to lead the way and it's been the exact opposite, thought it was an aberration to start the year, but it's been a constant.

I agree. And, I do wish they'd do what complete teans did in the past - move runners along and beat the shift with occasional bunts. Jayson Werth said recently that baseball has become somewhat boring and I agree. More imagination is needed. These millionaires are too soft. Take them to the wood shed!

That's a lot of buts.
