7 in toronto, .206 avg
5 in seattle, .105 avg

8 in detroit, .306 avg
7 in NYY, .313 avg

weird splits

oddly, he hit .192 on turf. 17 games.

Well, the fact remains that he was a different player outside of Fenway. Both in 1978 and for his career.

He was HOF caliber in Fenway (.320/.374/.546), largely average outside of it (.277/.330/.459)

I honestly don't get why Evans didn't get more love from the HOF. IMO, watching both, he was the better overall player.

deweys defense...

it took me a long time to realize what my childhood hero rice really was. a product of his home park.

dewey should be in for a number of reasons, over rice IMO. i still have visions of dewey trying to stretch a a triple in camden, as an oriole vs the sox, into an inside the park HR. thrown out at home.
came really close tho for a 39 year old.

just going off the BBR splits

My point is still the same though. 5-8 games worth of data is interesting but really not enough to draw conclusions from. So it's not surprising seeing "weird splits".

The road game overall total is not cited in the post that I responded to, in that post it is broken up into 5-8 game samples.

I'm not trying to shit on you or anything, I'm just saying that weird splits do happen over small samples. Which I believe you "get".

Bob Gibson says big fucking deal
1968 went 22-9 with 1.12 era
28 CG 13 SO
from june 6 to july 30 11-0 all CG and gave up 3 runs:suds:
How do you lose 9 games with a 1.12 ERA.................WTF
Tiant had a 1.60 ERA for the Tribe in '68 and also lost 9 games (won 21).
Extreme outlier of a year...

Red Sox fans will tell you he was "feared"
The only thing Rice feared was not getting his check...the one thing I will say in his favor is that he learned to play The Wall quite well, but he still was not really a good defensive player overall.
What a transition from being a total jackwad as a player to Mr Nice Guy so he could get a NESN job. He's basically the black Eck as far as personality goes.

doesn't help that 1968 had the lowest ERA in modern era baseball (2.98). Tiant had a fantastic year, but his 1.60 ERA was good for "only" a 186 ERA+ which ranks tied for 79th all-time. There have been several seasons with a higher ERA+ over the last few years (2016 Hendricks, 2009 and 2015 Greinke, 2017 Kluber, 2013-14 Kershaw, 2015 Arrieta). Greinke went only 16-8 in 2009 as the Royals bullpen and lineup were dumpster fires.

Shoulda been Rickey in '85, Donnie Baseball in '86

Rickey had the best WAR, but Brett had better stats across the board.

Stolen bases and runs scored must carry significant weight
