Shit's a big fat ripoff if I say so myself. Some you can do yourself, not mine... naturally. The dealership I bought my truck at charged me $50 and the other GMC dealership I called charges $80. Took like 2 mins to do.

Yeah, if my truck was like a 2007 or earlier I could but it's a 2010 and they have to do it at the dealership with this little computer thing (Tech II or something like that). Most of them is just a combo of holding the unlock button and different switch positions to get into the setup mode, then holding the lock and unlock on the remote at the same time. I guess they figured they were losing money by people being able to do it themselves. I couldn't even find a locksmith with the right kind of computer to do it, they're usually cheaper if they can.

Yes...you did get ripped if they charged that just to program it...I purchased a 2nd one for my wife's car and they are expensive (about $100 was the best price I found) imo, but the dealer programmed it for free, and I didn't buy it from them.

Not a DIY type either...but it only took about 5 mins.

I bought a brand new OEM fob on ebay for $9.19 w/free shipping. Blew the guy at the dealership away when I told him, they wanted $125 for the fob and to program it. I got out only spending $59.19 total. I guess it coulda been worse at the end of the day.

Luckily I was able to program mine myself, but I know dealers are proud of doing it for you. Sucks, but that is where we are heading. Less and less stuff can be done in your driveway for these cars. Makes them more reliable and easy to own, but expensive when something does go wrong.

Yup, can't hardly do shit yourself these days unless you have some fancy ass equipment.

Love the avi by the way. :thumb:

Thankfully, I am able to program key fobs for my Honda myself. Also purchased additional remotes off of Ebay.

The dealership feg said they wouldn't turn my seatbelt dinger off. So, I said I'll never be back and I'll probably tell that to the dealership owner when I see him at the club. Then, the guy hooked-up a computer thing and turned it off! Funny how that works.

Then no...you made out okay imo...not sure why, but I was afraid of the ebay deals ($50) so I paid $95 bucks for a new Nissan/Infiniti (no difference what so ever) fob from a different dealer...the dealer I bought the car from wanted $149...but as mentioned they programmed it for free. I should add that (freebie) was arranged before I bought the car.

I lost my keyless remote and they wanted 250 bucks for my dodge truck for a new remote and programing. I bought a cheap car alarm that had a door lock function, wired it in to the door locks and just use it without the car alarm. When the doors lock it automatically set the factory alarm. Cost 50 bucks and three hours of time to do, so probably should have just paid the 250 bucks. lol

Maybe you should just wear your seatbelt?
