If the hit Anthony Barr laid on Aaron Rodgers last season -- which broke the Green Bay quarterback's collarbone -- took place this season, it would be deemed a penalty.

According to NFL official Pete Morelli, who explained the league's rule changes to a group of Twin Cities media on Thursday, Barr's hit would fall under a point of emphasis the NFL has instituted for 2018. It would be a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer.

Rule 12 in the NFL's 2018 rulebook details player conduct. Under Article 9, which explains the rules around roughing the passer, the manner in which a quarterback in a defenseless position (which is just after he's completed throwing a pass) is tackled is the point of emphasis.

Tackle that injured Rodgers a penalty today

It will be interesting to see how these new rules play out. My guess is they would still take 15 yard penalty if it knocks out the best QB in the league

It gets more and more ridiculous with each passing off-season

In the case of Aaron Rodgers, it will probably be a penalty more times than not when he gets sacked.

Couldn’t agree more. Just let the QB’s wear their red jerseys and put F’ing flags on em already. They could give two shits about their safety. It’s about the all mighty dollar.

The declaration about not letting the defender use his whole weight makes sense. I dont think there was anything violent about the hit. Hits like Adams took twice last year should result in an immediate ejection IMO.

Personally, I like the days of old where if one team busts up one of our guys, we go and bust up one of theirs to even the score... ...instead of these fairy ass tackling rules where if you touch someone the wrong way you gotta go sit in timeout.

Packer nation cried their eyes out when Rodgers was hit. Now they accuse others of whining.

A little hypocrisy in your words I think.

Wow...just wow... I'm going to suggest you stop thinking before you hurt yourself
