(There are no wrong answers on this one because I'm researching and want to get input from the board.)

What age does an NFL head coach go from being among the younger members of his profession to being now counted as an older member of the profession?

The youngest Head coach right now is Sean McVay (37) and the oldest is Pete Carroll (72) So, the choice is whatever you think it is between the ages of 37 - 72. Thanks!

When did they start coaching?

How long have they been at their current level?

How many chances were they given? Probably the biggest question.

If you need a straight answer, 55 is probably a good marker. 37-46is young. 47-56 is your prime. 57-66 is old. Older than 66 just retire already dude.

I don't believe age has anything to do with "respect" in HC circles around the NFL. Look at McVay, very well respected at 37 in his short time as HC. So, establish continued success year in and year out (typically 5 yr contract) plus add 1 SB to your resume and you automatically become a member of the respected HC's in the league regardless of age.

Straight answer: 10 years as HC, 50+ years old.

Based on how i read your question with McVay being the example. 37 considered young, by age 50, those terms would no longer be used. This is my opinion being in my 40s. I considered the McVay hiring innovative but unheard of based on age, however from my perspective even commentators would refer to him as experienced, seasoned, etc at age 50

Thanks, but I'm not looking for an age where they are respected, just the median age between being a young head coach and an older head coach.
