Well guys yesterday I was completely speechless. I simply didn't know what to say.

Today I think we as die hard fans should be frustrated over the trades yesterday. Locke and Jaso are still starting, wish we could have trade both of them especially Jaso. Bell should be starting period!!!!! This makes no sense. You know guys I have been a die hard fan since 1965 and was born and raised in Dallas Tx. I saw Bell play in high school. I have always liked Mark Cuban and wished we could some how have Cuban as our owner. Let’s trade Nutting for Cuban LOL We need a owner that more concern about winning.

Liriano and Niese had to go and you can put Jaso and Locke on that list also. However the Liriano deal was horrible.

Lastly guys I think Cutch has had enough of this and will be leaving in the forseeable future. He will be making 14 mil next yr. I may be wrong about Cutch but this team really lay down in the Brewers series. A team that had Braum and Lucroy out of the lineup. This is absolutely awful. However I am a die hard so you know I am always hoping we can start playing better.

I see where you are coming from with Hutchinson but I am surprised it took both top 20 prospects to get the deal done? Not that either really would become much in Pittsburgh but they seem better fit for an off season package to get an upgrade somewhere.

Trust me I am not complaining by their trades today, it this one was very unorthodox and it freed up money to pay Cole and shows they are committed to the young starters going forward.

My guess is the industry (and the Pirates) are lower on McGuire than we are for some reason, and there are legitimate concerns Harold Ramirez will turn into another Tabata. The way NH talked about them, it seems he likes other players in their system better. They did draft a glove-first catcher with power potential this year, and maybe they like his bat better moving forward.

But I also think fans and media are undervaluing Hutchison because he hasn't had Major League success. But that ignores his Major League time came almost straight out of A+ since he barely even pitched any AA innings before debuting with the Jays. His value is lower because of fewer years of control, but he's basically a prospect, and would probably be a very good prospect had he taken a normal progression through the minors and still had prospect status. That's probably why the price was so high from him. He's a guy who's effectively still a prospect, but has shown he can get Major League hitters out already with some competency, even if he's not yet consistently effective (as a prospect would be).

We'll see later this year and mostly next year if this faith is properly placed. But the Pirates have done a great job getting TJ guys back to throwing as hard as they did before surgery (which Hutchison is not yet), so perhaps they can add a few more ticks to his fastball. Even if they don't, though, his K/BB numbers are good in AAA this year, so he's already missing bats, and there's plenty there to work with.

We shall see how this works out, but if the Bucs are right about what they see in Hutchison, and if they allocate Liriano's dollars effectively, this trade could prove to be a win for both sides; the Pirates for the next three years, and the Jays starting in about three years and moving forward.

So he has talent. He started opening game the 2015 season and struggled. He sounds more like a #4 or #5.

It's fair to point out he had fewer than 20 innings at AA before debuting. He only had 20 more in AAA before that 2015 situation. There's no way he was ready for the Show.

Hello Darkstone. Okay he had fewer than 20 innings at AA before debuting. So lets see how he progress in the minors but as of right now he seems to be a 4 or 5 type of pitcher. But I must be straight forward, this trade was simply about money and was a bad trade. We saved 17 mil on this trade and we gave away two of our top 10 prospects. Now to me 17 mil is not a lot of money. I just think we should have received a little more in return and I think that's why some here think this trade was bad.

Hey Darkstone I mentioned Cutch early during our Sundays game with the Brewers. He stroke out 3 times. I noticed his behavior after one of SO's and I did not like what I saw. Obviously Hurdle took notice also. He's not playing the whole week. He just looked like he doesn't care anymore.

I noticed he didn't play in the first two Braves games, didn't know it was for the whole week. Maybe the benching will snap him outta the funk he's in???

The Pirates have actually been trying to get Hutchison for a couple years, so I don't think this was just about money. I think they pulled the trigger on an overpayment, but I don't think they sent two prospects out just to get rid of Liriano's salary.

Hutch's first start in AAA for us was apparently really weird. He completely dominated for most of the game except for the first three batters, and a three-batter stretch of crummy command in the fifth. Those six batters put up 4 runs on him. We'll see what adjustments the Pirates try to make with him now that they've seen him.

Trades with AL=11 (East=5, Central=3, West=4)
Trades with NL=7 (East=4, Central=1, West=1)

Interested to see who ends up coming to the Pirates for Caminero. The fact that it can be either 1 or 2 prospects makes me think if it is 1 prospect there is a good chance he could be decent (top 20 in Mariners system?).

Moving Locke to pen gives them 4 lefties (Locke, Bastardo, River and Watson) in the pen.

Any rumors on who the player(s) TBD for Nova are? I just hope it's not any Top 20 prospects!

So far, it doesn't look like the Pirates have made a bad trade since they started to be relevant again. Prior to 2018, I do not think they traded any prospect that has turned into a solid MLB player.

There are several posts from 2016 about trading Meadows and Glasnow for Archer. I do not think NH gets the credit he deserves.

The only really bad trade I can remember making in this "competitive" era (2011 and beyond) is Walker for Niese. That Liriano deal ended up being a wash because he didn't get better, the two prospects flamed out and Hutchison wasn't around long enough to suck. The Astros ended up with the best player of the Cole trade but at least the Pirates got some pieces yielding positive dividends.

The best player in terms of prospects given up seems to be Robbie Grossman, and if that is the best of that group they've done well in that sense.

Don't give GMNH credit he just read this post and realized most of our picks are garbage.
