McGlinchey. OK. I hadn't heard Tackle as being one of their priorities but they need help in so many areas its hard to fault them on this pick.

I actually had herd rumblings that the Niners or Raiders could be looking at McGlinchey.

If Roquan Smith was the top player on their board and McGlinchey was #2 on their board it's hard to fault them on it. Mike Mayock had him as the 7th or 8th best player in the draft.

Yes, despite all the euphoria, we do have many holes still. As long as McGlinchey pans out, it'll be a huge fill.

QB's have positional value, Edge rushers have positional value, after these two spots, hard to argue LT is next? So that gives us even more reason for McGlinchey.

Apparently even McGlinchey was shocked. The Niners never spoke to him once after the combine according to him.

McGlinchey's arrival likely signals the end of Trent Brown's time with the 49ers. The 49ers did not draft him with the ninth pick to sit him all year, and it is unlikely he can fold his lanky frame to fit into a guard's role. Brown is an elite pass protector, but he has always struggled on the backside of zone runs, a staple in Kyle Shanahan's offense. McGlinchey excels as a run blocker. He employs terrific technique, long arms, and active feet to reach blocks at all levels and stick to those blocks through the whistle. Shanahan likely believes in his ability to scheme pass plays that look similar to his run plays, which will assist McGlinchey in gaining an early advantage against opponents on pass plays.

I expect that the 49ers will attempt to trade Brown, who could draw significant interest from teams who run a gap blocking scheme. While Brown has struggled significantly as a zone blocker, his bulk and length make him an imposing road-grader as a down blocking gap scheme tackle. If the 49ers can secure a day two pick for Brown, the McGlinchey pick looks to gain value.

To make this pick a home run, McGlinchey will need to develop greater foot speed to contend on the left side after Staley retires. Staley has never been shy about helping bring young offensive linemen along, so McGlinchey could not hope for a better mentor.

Yep, no matter what we think now, it comes down to what he pans out too. He himself has to play like a 9th overall pick.

There was a rumor yesterday of the 49ers discussing trading Brown to the Broncos for a 2nd round pick. Sounds like there may have been some merit to that rumor after all.

I am okay with the pick after the players I really wanted were gone by the time the 49ers drafted.

According to A. Schefter, pending a physical, Brown will be traded to the Pats with a 5th pick and get back a 3rd. SF now has a 2, and three 3's today.

Make those picks count! About Landry who you like, I just read an article that he dropped in the draft because of injury concerns. I guess he has some kind of leg/ankle issue

Yeah...it sounds like knee/back issues for Landry. That's gotta be the only reason he dropped....talented pass rushers are gold. And agreed....package some of these picks and move to get some talent that is still left on the board. I don't think SF should wait till the end of the 2nd to make a pick.

3 third round picks with the trade of Brown.
Use one to trade up in the 2nd.
Might not be a bad idea to package the other two for another 2nd rounder in the top half of the round

I'd be ok with this. Since we didn't go D at 9th, we should add quality defenders today, vice quantity.

So it looks like Brown went to the Patriots for a 4th round pick? Brown is a valuable player and you can never have enough quality O linemen but he is injury prone and was scheduled for free agency after the season.

We already got Garopollo in the second round so we can't lose in the 2nd. It will be interesting to see what they do with the 3rd rounders.

We got the Patriots 3rd round pick and gave our 5th round pick. I asked one of the guys that knows a lot about NFL and 49er stuff. Some of this stuff is already known. Brown almost always came into camp out of shape, sometimes way out of shape. He also has difficulty learning the playbook. He also is a poor scheme fit better suited to power blocking scheme. Was good as a pass blocker but really struggled to maintain his blocks in the zone scheme Shanahan employs.
