MVP:

Jokic. A triple double on 63% FG.

Most Improved:

Haliburton missed too many games. So I'm going with Markkanen.

It's annoying how Markkanen was averaging above 51% for most of the year, and finished below 50%. I really wanted him to finish above 51%.

Defensive Player:

Hard to pick between Brook Lopez or Antetokounmpo. Not sure if I'm underselling Marcus Smart too.

I'll go with Lopez.

6th Man Of The Year:

Portis

Rookie Of The Year:

1) Kessler 2) Banchero 3) Jalen Williams 4) Keegan Murray

Coach Of The Year:

Mike Brown

Executive Of The Year:

1) Ainge (Utah) 2) Altman (Cleveland)

For the Kings, I don't think Huerter, Monk, Keegan Murray, and Kessler Edwards are enough to deserve it. Maybe hiring Mike Brown could elevate him to #3.

Clutch Player Of The Year:

Fox, but I'd be open to other options.

The decline probably started before this, but he did have a hand contusion towards the end. I imagine that makes it hard to shoot, regardless of which hand is hurt.

Sabonis has had a hand injury since December, and managed a great FG%.

I know they're not the same player.

But basically, if Markkanen is on the court, I want him to be great.

Would you rather this be called the Michael Jordan Trophy?

Now I know you're trolling me.

It should be named after whoever has the most clutch assists and steals in crunch time history.

The Michael Jordan trophy should be the guy that has the most airballs in the 3 point shootout.

Since he has the worst score in 3-point shootout history.

Congrats Markkanen. He's glad we woke up at 2am.

@MHSL82, can you cross post this in the "magic words" thread?

I disagree with him winning for reasons already stated.

Shouldn't be a top 3 candidate.

I don’t think Cleveland should’ve gotten second place. Yes, they got Mitchell, but they gave up a lot for him and we got back an all star. Minnesota gave up Kessler for Gobert and more.

I think Cleveland going from 44 to 51 wins helped.

Utah went from 49 to 37 (but they were #1 on my ballot).

There was someone on the radio who talked almost specifically about those numbers, but they weren’t talking about Cleveland because it was in the middle of the year. They were saying that some of may think a seven game increase would be not that much, but it’s huge. Still, I don’t think Cleveland should be second place.

What are your top 3 or 4?

I said in the OP that Ainge and Altman were my top two. I'd probably put Presti 3rd.

I don't know what to think about Rob Pelinka on the Lakers. Because he corrected his previous screwups, but his screwups were still within the past year. So I don't think he gets a top 4 vote.

Maybe Leon Rose (NYK) #3, Sean Marks (Brooklyn) #4, Tim Connelly # 5 (they need better health), then Monte McNair # 6.

I’m sorry. I don’t care. I always want the Jazz to win. If they don’t, then I look at who finished above. I don’t know anything about Sacramento besides what you told me so I didn’t downgrade them.

Milwaukee had Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez on the first defensive team and Giannis also received votes, enough to be in the top 10 of votes, but third in his category.

Overall, they were 14th in opponent points allowed. However, much of this may be because if their bench werent ans good defensively and because of garbage time? When you score a lot, your opponents tend to score a lot, too. Those teams who score a lot have shorter possessions, whereas those teams with lower scoring opponents are sometimes due to using the clock and minimizing possessions. Since you pay attention to a lot of things, you would also maybe know about their transition opportunities and defense.

Was their recently fired coach defensive minded when they wanted more points?

That's why I look at defensive rating, which is points allowed per 100 possessions.

They were 4th in defensive rating, 111.9 points allowed per 100 possessions.

I think Budenholzer is a good offensive coach. He also had a lot of good defensive players, and they played like it. So he got a lot there too.
