Not sure why except he is controllable for a few years but not sure I would value giving up including Newman in that deal.

i doubt it either that's why I was surprised Kela was rumored. There is a new rumor they are trying to get Gausman and Givens from Baltimore. That would be interesting to see the haul they would have to give up for those long-term controllable pieces.

Wow did not expect that either. One of the folks going back is Taylor Hearn who that got with Vazquez.
Almost think Vazquez will be dealt now but which team will take him and give up SP in return?

Kela is a good pick up... Young... affordable... He can stay with the Pirates for a couple years before they have to let him go... Plus he has a great arm and has been super this year in the pen... More than a strikeout per inning... something close to 4 strikeouts for every walk.

Now the bucs have a left handed and a right handed closer at the back of the bullpen

Pirates' Jung Ho Kang still shut down, will be evaluated in Pittsburgh

I saw a month ago that Kang made it to Triple A... I did not see he got hurt.

I think Liriano would be a really solid add to the bullpen. Middle relief/lefty specialist. I think he is only making around $1M this year.

Yeah I agree but what if it never happens and then they will regret not selling high on him.

He does have the kind of a ceiling, but his floor is really low too.

The Pirates control Archer for three more seasons. Even if they do not make the playoffs this season, it's still a great move.

This potentially gives them a killer rotation for the next few years, especially with Keller close.

Exactly. That's what's lost in all this is it's made almost more for 2019 and 2020 than 2018.
