Agree, their epic season will come with tremendous pressure to win it all.....It's theirs to lose right now.....

Don't worry, there will be plenty of pressure to go around for the Yankees if they make the WC game.

Yea sad but true. The only possible way the Yanks can still win the division is if they cut the Sox lead in half by labor day weekend but seems unlikely because the Sox schedule is pretty soft up until then as well. Not as easy as the Yankees but bad enough.

Only challenging series I see are a 2 game set in Philly, 3 game set in Tampa, and a 4 game home series vs Cleveland.

Sox are 25-5 in their last 30, they are not slowing down but picking up steam. Outside of a total September collapse (which I will note we have seen before) they have the division in the bag.

Congrats on the WS

just stop. The 2001 Mariners, 2001-02 A's and those 90s/00s 100+ win Braves teams couldn't even make it to the WS, but teams like the 2006 Cardinals and 1987 Twins have won.

the division isn't over, though that requires the Yankees being 9+ games better with ~50 games to go. But such big leads evaporating in a short time span isn't totally unheard of, the A's were 1 games back of the Mariners on June 15 and now they're 3 games ahead of them.

Only good thing is they have to slow down at some point....and I would love for that point to be in the ALDS

It was pretty sweet when the '01 M's beat the '98 Yankees single season win record, only to get knocked out of the playoffs in 5 games by those very same Yankees.

Right blade?

:)

Provided the Yankees qualify for and win the one-gamer, the build-up to that series will be epic.

Rubber match playoff series. Unfortunately, we'll be subjected to "We know what happened the last time these two met in October...."

:rolleyes2:

It's okay guys, the Yankees should still win the division quite easily. Just ask @SlinkyRedfoot.

Yankees Copying Philly = Rock Bottom

Feel free to bump this if they do fuck up with the division, but it's hard not to laugh at PECOTA projecing the Sox for 89 wins. They'll probably hit that before the end of the month. I think PECOTA had them slated for like 750 runs. They have 620 on the year and Fangraphs projects them to score about 240 more.

Yep. That one's not looking so good right about now.

C'est la vie. At least the Indians will get to bounce the Red Sox out of the postseason. Too bad there isn't a face-of-the-franchise, roided up freak that we can retire like last time.

Indians should be tough. You guys have a better rotation, especially with Carrasco's recent dominance and Bauer's breakout. Clevinger's also done a good job cutting down on the walks.

I'll be at the Indians-Sox series in 2 weeks.

Nice! That should be a good series. Offenses are pretty even, although I'd probably give Red Sox an edge there because the Indians face AL Central pitching so much.

Indians bullpen is a fucking wreck, though. Miller and Allen are shitting their beds in walk years.

Still not convinced the Sox are better than the Astros.

Astros: 79-36 pythag
Sox: 77-38

Sox bullpen has been good, but they're prone to walking batters (Kimbrel, Barnes, Kelly and Hembree all have walk rates over 4). Not to mention Kimbrel gives up his share of long balls.

My concern about the playoffs is the same as last year - Indians face a whole lot of shit pitching in September. They've got eight games against TB and BOS, but otherwise, they've got 20 games against KC, TOR, DET and CHW. Their final seven games of the season are against the White Sox and Royals, arguably the two worst pitching teams in the majors.

So, they're going to spend most of the month facing bullshit and then be thrust into the playoffs to face monster pitching teams.

I actually don't have a lot of hope for this postseason with the exception of the crapshootidity of playoff baseball.
