So, Victor Martinez announced that he'll likely retire after the season.

Crazy to me that he's now played more for the Tigers more than he played for the Indians. He's one of my favorites. Class act and one hell of a hitter.

They had a little segment on him this morning on Quick Pitch. First, a trivia question; what active switch hitter has the most home runs, and I immediately thought V-Mart.

They went on to discuss May 11, 2016. In a game where Max Scherzer was absolutely dealing for the Nats, throwing a complete game with twenty Ks, Ian Kinsler, JD Martinez (pre-steroids), and Miguel Cabrera (fully-juiced) combined to go 1-12 with 9 Ks, V-Mart had 3 hits and no Ks. Baller.

Here's to you, Mr Martinez.

He had an incredible 2014 season: .335 BA (career high), 32 home runs (career high), 103 RBI, .409 OBP (led AL), .974 OPS (led MLB) and only 42 strikeouts.

The only negative is that season inspired Ilitch to give him a four-year, $68 million contract. For three of those four years, he's been puke.

Yeah, nice outing last night ... 5 ER in 1/3 of an inning. Shoulda left him on the scrap heap.

That depends on one's perspective.

From a fan's perspective, he's been grossly overpaid.

From the perspective of his family and bank account, a helluva good deal. ;)

Frankly, I don't like playoff hopes, and odds mean fuckall once October rolls around.

In 2016, the Indians (especially with their injuries) had no business being in the WS. The Red Sox, Blue Jays and Cubs were all better teams, yet they went 7-1 against the Sox and Jays and pushed the Cubs to a decisive game 7.

Then, in 2017, a case could be made that they were the best team in baseball and they were bounced out in the first round.

That said, I hope Bauer heals. That's gotta be pissing him off. Dude was on a serious roll.

From an Indians fan perspective, that contract was fucking hysterical. Nothing bad about it!

I've always like V-Mart. I was pretty upset when that twat Shapiro traded him.
