Braves Discussing Andrelton Simmons Trade With NL West Club

By Steve Adams | November 11, 2015 at 9:58pm CST

9:58pm: Keri now tweets that the Braves’ talks revolve around Andrelton Simmons. That doesn’t necessarily rule out any of the four remaining teams, as the Rockies and Padres could certainly use a long-term answer at shortstop and either the Dodgers or D-Backs could shuffle their current infield alignment to add a defender of Simmons’ caliber.

Simmons’ offensive output was down in 2015, but he remains arguably the game’s most elite defensive player and is under contract for another five seasons at a total of $53MM.

9:33pm: The Giants aren’t in talks with the Braves, both SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo and the San Francisco Chronicle’s Henry Schulman hear (links to Twitter).

9:11pm: The Braves are “deep” in trade talks with a yet-unnamed NL West club, reports Jonah Keri of ESPN (via Twitter). Clearly, there’s a lot left to the imagination with this report, but there’s enough to at least envision a few possibilities.

Seriously, why trade Andrelton?? He is a young key player we can build around defensively.

I'm going to be so pissed if we trade him.

We've been told this whole time that Simmons and Freeman were off limits, so WTF?? Next thing you know we will be trading Freddie.

How good are the prospects we got out of them exactly?

The pitcher is suppose to be pretty good, like #25 overall I think (I haven't read it, just skimmed), so at least that helps. Still, I don't like giving up our best player, who is still so young and affordable.

Anyone else excited over the signing of Bud Norris?

And apparently at least 20 teams have had discussions about Shelby Miller.

Our asking price has been too high for them, and I hope we don't waiver.

We need to be blown away by any trade that involves a good young player that we have.

And we signed Jim Johnson a few hours ago.

Maybe he can be a help to our pen like he was last season.

I think Norris could be a decent, cheap option to put in the rotation next year. If we can get a good young bat (Soler or Baez from the Cubs or Ozuna from the Marlins) I would be fine with trading Miller at what probably is the highest value he is likely to have.

Norris isn't horrible and we can cut bait pretty cheap if he doesn't work out.

If we get a return like that, I'd definitely be fine with trading Miller. I know they say you can never have enough pitching, but we're eventually gonna have to be able to hit as well and everyone we've traded away has had the significant return being pitching prospects other than shipping away our best prospect and my favorite pitcher to the Dodgers for a 30 year old unproven Cuban.

Looks like trade talks about Shelby Miller have heated up.

AJ Pollack from the D-Backs and Jorge Soler from the Cubs are the top names being thrown out, and I'd be all in favor of either trade.
