Went to the pond on Sunday and used live large minnows with a bobber.

This is 20.5 bass and several smaller ones (13-17 inch)

Using minnows is cheating for bass fishing.

No effective and legal means is cheating.

....and a 20 inch bass should weigh about 5lbs.

I thought about taking some minows out on sunday in my pond after we hit the reservoir but when I saw Large minows were 7.99 a dozen I decided a fluke would work just fine instead. And it did.

Just under 5 lbs.

I normally don't use minnows for bass but wanted to try for no other reason then I wanted to be lazy... haha.

I'm a catch and release guy and even more sooo when I fish in these ponds (not all of them are trustworthy.)

I think these cost right around that 7.99 mark you mentioned too I wasn't thrilled about that and even bought smaller ones for crappie at $1.60.

I'm going tonight with a few leftovers I have a live still so we'll see what hits...

The only reason you should ever keep a largemouth is if you're planning to mount it.

They are not for eating. Simply for game and nothing more.

When I was younger I caught 1 over 5 lbs and 1 nearly 7 lbs up here in Nebraska both in the same night. My dad didn't have the money to mount the big one and let me tell you, a 7 lb bass in Nebraska is a BIG bass......but I had to suck it up and throw them both back.

Catch and release is the way to go. Not to mention, eating a bass is like eating out your sister.....it just ain't right.

I release 99% of the largemouth that I catch, but once in a while I'll get a wild hair and fillet one. Ain't nothing wrong with some largemouth fillets. A pot of grits and some hushpuppies and the world is right again. Besides we don't have smallmouths this far south. At least none that I am aware of. They have them in some of the upstate lakes and rivers, but that's about it.
